Corporate Moving — Nationwide curfew and protests in Bangladesh. As civil unrest escalates in Bangladesh, the government has enforced an indefinite nationwide curfew and deployed the army, addressing weeks of student-led protests against a controversial quota system in government job allocations. Dhaka has experienced significant disruptions, leading to a city-wide shutdown and numerous casualties. Key insights from our detailed report include: 1. Government response: Efforts to restore order are underway, with the government actively working to mitigate violence and vandalism. 2. Protest dynamics: Negotiations are stalled as student leaders demand the complete removal of the quota system. 3. Communication blackouts: The government has temporarily restricted internet access, affecting the flow of information and increasing public dissent. 4. Human rights concerns: International human rights organisations have raised concerns over the security measures' impact on civil liberties. Really innovative and interesting model to engage the community and co-create spaces and programs. Community engagement has to be a collaborative process to be effective—it cannot be an afterthought or a box to check. If done right, the space, work, or programs to come out of an initiative are likely to be more impactful and successful when you’re engaging the people who are likely to use them most.
The UC San Diego Community Stations are dynamic spaces co-created by the university and local communities along the California-Mexico border. Explore the story at on.mellon.org/3OuesPG

YWCA Canada issued an apology to Indigenous communities for involvement in programs offered at residential schools and Indian hospitals supporting colonial ideologies and promoting policies of assimilation. "As we have embarked on a journey towards meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, YWCA Canada is taking ownership of the harms caused as part of our legacy as a historically colonial institution with faith-based origins that were used to assimilate Indigenous communities," Aline Nizigama, chief executive officer of YWCA Canada, said in a news release last week. In 2019, the organization commissioned research on its role in residential schools and Indian hospitals, and published a summary report last week.
