▶️The social determinants of health are affecting the mental and physical health of the general population…. ▶️These issues cannot be solved by throwing a bunch of pamphlets out in waiting rooms. They are solved by removing them. By teaching our children the meaning of unconditional love and tolerance. ➡️Unconditional love and tolerance doesn’t mean tolerating unconditionally…it means accepting differences and working with those differences #mentalhealthawareness #socialdeterminants

Today is World Mental Health Day, and the focus on inclusive mental health services is more critical than ever. 🧠💚 The Leprosy Mission is calling on governments to make mental health services available to the world's poorest people and advocating for mental health services to be integrated into government primary healthcare systems. It is also asking for mental health support to be part of government leprosy programmes. Mental health support isn’t just an additional benefit—it’s a fundamental part of healing for those impacted by leprosy who often face isolation and stigma.
Today is World Mental Health Day. 🧠💚 The Leprosy Mission is highlighting a critical gap: the lack of accessible mental health services for the world's most vulnerable people. We are calling on governments to take urgent action to integrate mental health services into primary healthcare systems and ensure that mental health support is included in national leprosy programs. Stigma, isolation, and discrimination often accompany leprosy, making mental health support an essential component of care. By working together we can ensure that no one is left behind in the journey toward better health and wellbeing. 🌍💪 Read more in the article below #WorldMentalHealthDay #MentalHealthMatters #HealthForAll #LeprosyAwareness https://lnkd.in/ej4hV2gj

📌November is Men’s Health Awareness Month: Let’s Talk About It November is a time to shine a light on the physical and mental health challenges men face, from prostate and testicular cancer to the often-overlooked issues of mental health and suicide prevention. In the UK, 1 in 4 adults experiences a diagnosable mental health condition each year, and as of 2024, 1 in 7 people report their mental health is worse than ever. While mental health affects everyone, the statistics for men are particularly alarming: • Suicide is the leading cause of death for men under 50, accounting for 75% of all suicides. • Men are less likely to seek psychological support, making up only 36% of NHS talking therapy referrals. • Men are disproportionately affected by homelessness, comprising nearly 90% of rough sleepers in the UK. These numbers underscore a critical need for open conversations, greater support, and accessible resources for men’s health. Let’s break the stigma and create spaces where men feel safe to seek help and share their struggles. This November, join the movement to prioritize men’s health—because it’s time to talk and time to act. #MensHealthMonth #MentalHealthMatters #BreakTheStigma #MensHealthAwareness #DAWN Source: https://lnkd.in/gqt5fnqM

New research has found a strong link between childhood maltreatment and common mental health conditions in Australia. A recent meta-analysis revealed that, after controlling for genetic and environmental confounding, childhood maltreatment accounts for between 21% to 41% of these conditions. The highest attributable proportion was found for suicide attempts and self-harm. These findings highlight the urgent need for effective prevention and intervention strategies to address this critical issue. Read more about this important study here: https://lnkd.in/dMnd23Vc

As a Network we are pleased to support Centre for Mental Health in their call for a comprehensive policy drive to address the social inequalities behind the mental health stats in society. Environmental factors such as housing make a clear difference to health. We are committed as a Network to addressing our EDI within the industry and with the LE experts we coproduce products and services with to ensure that voices that are often excluded from design decisions are listened to and truly involved. Only if we develop products and buildings that meet people’s needs as they are will we be designing environments that are truly accessible. This agenda will be addressed at Design in Mental Health 2024 with Andy Bell and Cllr. Dr Jacqueline Dyer MBE, KCL Hon Fellow taking keynote slots to talk about exclusion as it currently affects the system. As a Network our roadmap is to develop coproduction services and training that truly shifts the dial on issues of inclusion. Watch this space. If you can contribute to our plans, please get involved as we are stronger together.

Depression Among Canadian Seniors in Long-Term Care Facilities Depression in the elderly, particularly in long-term care homes, is a significant and pressing issue. In Canada, it is estimated that the prevalence of depression among seniors residing in care facilities ranges between 30% to 40%. This rate can be influenced by various factors, including: 1. **Loneliness and Isolation**: Many seniors in long-term care facilities may be separated from their families and friends, leading to feelings of loneliness and depression. 2. **Physical Health Issues**: Some residents may face physical health challenges that can affect their mood and emotional well-being. 3. **Life Changes**: Transitioning into a long-term care facility can be a major adjustment for many seniors, and this change can be stressful and overwhelming. 4. **Cultural and Social Factors**: Cultural and social backgrounds can also significantly influence the experience of depression. To address depression within this population, mental health counseling and therapies, social and recreational activities, and emotional support are of utmost importance. In summary, while the prevalence of depression among seniors in long-term care homes in Canada is relatively high, appropriate care and attention to the psychological and social needs of these individuals can contribute to improving their quality of life. #ElderlyCare #MentalHealth #DepressionInElderly #SeniorLiving #GeriatricHealth #Canada #MentalWellness #AgingPopulation #Healthcare #SupportSeniors
