As we smash through Movember almost unnoticed, we’re now just 6 weeks away from Christmas, with rising pressures and inevitable deadlines. Therefore, it’s even more important to act now. According to BUPA, 3 out of 4 suicides are men, and suicide is the UK’s biggest killer of men under 50. Considering this shocking statistic, Proseal UK Ltd has joined the Movember initiative. Here’s the link to support the Team, and of course feel free to pass it on – https://lnkd.in/e2DnuTnM   For week two of Movember, I want to introduce Men’s Mental Health and reaching out with A L E C.     Life can throw us curveballs and we all respond differently to life’s unexpected challenges. Sometimes though, that can leave us feeling worried or overwhelmed. It’s important to be able to tackle important conversations. Starting conversations with someone who is struggling may seem daunting but getting them to open up can be easier with practice.    Four simple steps – use A L E C to help you navigate a conversation with a friend who might be doing it tough.    A = ASK - Start by asking how they are feeling. It’s worth mentioning any changes you’ve picked up on. Maybe they’re spending more time at the bar, has gone quiet in the group chat, or isn’t turning up to social events. Whatever it is, they are just not themself.  L = Listen - Give them your full attention. Let them know you’re hearing what they are saying and you’re not judging. You don’t have to diagnose problems or offer solutions, but asking questions lets them know you’re listening.  E = Encourage Action - Help them focus on simple things that might improve how they feel. Are they getting enough sleep? Are they exercising and eating well? Maybe there’s something that’s helped them in the past – it’s worth asking.    C = Check In - Suggest you catch up soon – in person if you can. If you can’t manage a meet-up, be available for a call, or drop them a message. Each year, we let the staff vote on which charity to support. This year, it’s Mind. As a company and a team, we are big on supporting mental health. And not just as some shallow tick-in-a-box gesture. It’s another area we genuinely care about. Too many people don't feel they have anyone to talk to or simply don’t know where to turn for support. Mind offers a huge range of support and advice to anyone who needs it. From under 18s to the elderly and from those needing support to those giving it. The work they do is so important, yet, like so many vital organisations, they rely on charitable donations.  This year, they’ll be receiving one from Faber. What do you do to give back?
