Reflections: I received a message to spearhead the campaign to showcase South African Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) fine wines in Singapore. I agreed without hesitation.    Hong Kong has always been viewed as the gateway to China, and the de facto financial hub in Asia. In recent years it has lost it luster. Singapore (USD466.8bil), and Vietnam (USD408.8bil) GDP has surpassed HK, right after the events of CoVid. (Source: Google). #Prowine, #Vinexpo, #Decanter are some significant wine exhibitions that have followed the wind of change and prioritized Singapore. Even #Vivino, the global wine app has setup their first retail store in City Hall, Singapore as of Sep, 2024. The immediate challenge thrust upon me; was how could I get a nation’s palate traditionally trained on Old World to be interested in something else. Slight funding meant a marketing charm offensive was impossible. Thankfully, we had 2 advantages. Heritage and a good set of data. We were able to pull off some great sessions, with the right target audiences. As #KishoreMahbubani recounts in his memoir, personal relationship counts for everything when you need it most.   No trails were set ablaze, but the ripple created would undoubtedly turned tidal sooner rather than later. This campaign also gave me a taste of the struggles our forefathers faced, when they had to go door to door selling our young nation capabilities. Importantly all was well, and some younglings Hadi Mohamed Dylan Wong gained lessons on management and cultural differences. Undoubtedly one of the highlights of my 2024.
