After an unsuccessful search for a third-party operator to take the reins, the Port of Portland will be shutting down their container services in October of this year. ❌ While port volumes were on a sharp decline in recent months, losing any option throughout your supply chains is still never ideal. ⛓️ #SupplyChain #Solutions #Shipping #Cargo #Freight #Port #Portland #Operation #Shutdown #Closing #Service

The world's first maritime container port was Elizabeth Marine Terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey, which opened in 1962. However, the first experiment with standardized containers at a port was in 1956 at Port Newark, where the McLean Trucking Company tested stacking and unloading containers onto trucks. Here are some other notable events in the history of container ports: 1917 Benjamin Franklin "B. F." Fitch launched commercial use of transferable containers in Cincinnati, Ohio. 1926 The first ships built to carry containers began operating to transport luggage for the Golden Arrow/Fleche d'Or, a luxury passenger train between London and Paris. 1932 The Pennsylvania Railroad opened the world's first inland container port in Enola, Pennsylvania. 1955 The White Pass & Yukon Route railway acquired the world's first purpose-built container ship, the Clifford J. Rogers. 1964 The MV Kooringa became the world's first fully cellular, purpose-built container ship. Containerization has made international trade faster and cheaper, especially for consumer goods and commodities. It has also changed the character of port cities around the world. #port #oceanfreight #transportation #historyoflogistics #trustedlogistics

⚓ An Overview of Ship Chandling: Ensuring the Sustained Operation of Maritime Activities The unsung champion of maritime operations is ship chandlering. Ship chandlers are essential in facilitating the efficient functioning of vessels across the globe, from the vibrant terminals to the expansive open seas. Ship chandlering, at its essence, involves the acquisition and provision of critical supplies and services that are indispensable for the functioning of vessels. Ship chandlers provide everything from sustenance and water to essential equipment and spare parts, ensuring that vessels remain afloat and operate efficiently. The Foundation of Maritime Activities: Efficiency and dependability are critical in the ever-changing and rigorous realm of maritime commerce. Ship chandlers play a critical role in this sector by ensuring that vessels are sufficiently resupplied and outfitted to confront the perils of the high seas. Why Ship Chandling Is Crucial: In the absence of ship chandlers, maritime operations would cease to function. A scenario in which a ship departs without essential provisions or equipment is one that neither the captain nor the personnel wishes to encounter. Ship chandlering ensures that vessels embark on their journeys with all the necessary provisions to do so securely and with assurance. An Integral Supply Chain: Through the provision of a cohesive supply chain for maritime operations, ship chandlers enhance the efficacy and efficiency of international commerce. Their proficiency in sourcing, logistics, and compliance guarantees that ships in transit are consistently supplied with high-quality products and services. Although ship chandling may not consistently garner significant media attention, its criticality should not be underestimated. In the midst of the dynamic maritime sector, it is imperative that we pause momentarily to recognize the critical importance that ship chandlers contribute to the safety of our oceans and the continued voyage of our vessels. #maritimeindustry #ShipChandling #maritimeoperations #Logistics #supplychain #shipping

About Port Tampa Bay, a Founding Member of the Brazil-Florida Business Council, Inc.: Home to almost half the state's population of more than 21 million residents and welcoming a majority of the 126 million tourists who visit Florida every year, the Tampa Bay/Orlando I-4 Corridor has the largest concentration of distribution centers in the state. ➡️From this central location in the middle of the Florida peninsula, importers and exporters achieve significant savings in their truck delivery costs to serve the entire state, while also reaching into markets throughout the Southeast and beyond. For companies involved in retail distribution, e-commerce, food and beverage, and manufacturing, the demands for same-day service, tighter delivery windows, and shorter lead times are driving this shift in supply chain strategy. ➡️Importers and exporters benefit from significant truck cost savings, as well as reductions in their carbon footprint, as drivers can now make multiple shorter round trip deliveries per day thanks to Port Tampa Bay's preferred location and proximity to Florida's Distribution Hub – the I-4 Corridor. ➡️Together with container terminal operator partner Ports America, Port Tampa Bay is continuing to expand and upgrade facilities, having recently added 25 acres of paved storage, with construction about to begin on another 30 acres, bringing the total container footprint to 100 acres. A third deep-water berth is also being added, along with additional cranes and a new gate complex.
