CTCN is launching a groundbreaking pilot project under the EU-CTCN Climate Change and Security programme in Cameroon 🇨🇲. Cameroon's National Development Strategy 2020-2030 focuses on boosting agricultural production, particularly on family farms, amidst challenges like prolonged drought and rising temperatures. To address this, Cameroon is prioritizing climate-smart agriculture, with a focus on synecoculture – a sustainable farming technique from Japan that enhances food production and environmental resilience. Our goal is to enhance food security, improve nutritional profiles, soil quality, profitability, climate adaptation, and field biodiversity through specific objectives: ✅ Capacity building for 500 individuals, primarily youth with 70% women, in synecoculture techniques; ✅ Addressing identified community needs; ✅ Documenting quantitative data on the benefits of synecoculture, including irrigation efficiency, agricultural yields, soil health, and biodiversity, with a robust monitoring and evaluation system; 🔗: https://lnkd.in/dtrWBJNW #EU_CTCN #ClimateTech UN Environment Programme, UN Climate Change, Fred Onduri, Dr Stephen Minas, Rajiv Garg, Christofer Ahlgren, European Commission, EU Environment and Climate, Nadege Trocellier.

📢 Excited to announce that I will speak at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan during the Food, Agriculture, and Water Day! 🌍 Join us on November 19th, from 17:00 to 18:30, at the Presidency Conference Room | Mugham as we dive into a critical discussion on "Making Climate Finance Work for Farmers: On-farm Experiences and concrete solutions." 💡 During this session, I’ll address these vital questions: 1️⃣ What are farmers’ organizations currently achieving on the ground? I’ll share how FOs drive impactful initiatives to build climate resilience for family farmers. 2️⃣ How can direct access to financing empower farmers? I'll discuss the transformative role of climate finance in supporting sustainable farming practices. 3️⃣ Examples from the field: Drawing from my experience, I’ll showcase examples of innovative solutions and success stories that demonstrate how we can create a sustainable future for family farmers. Let’s work together to make climate finance accessible and effective for those who need it most—our farmers! 🌱💪 Looking forward to engaging with global leaders, sharing experiences, and driving solutions for climate-resilient agriculture. See you there! 🌾✨ #COP29 #ClimateFinance #FarmersFirst #Agriculture #Sustainability #ClimateAction #YouthInAgriculture World Farmers' OrganisationUNYFA

#Biodiversity supports basic human needs and underpins economic growth. Yet unprecedented biodiversity losses over the last 50 years are threatening to undermine key industries and economic development, particularly in emerging markets. At #COP16 in #Cali, Colombia, government and industry leaders focus on reversing these losses and shifting to nature-smart production practices. Ahead of #COP29, I shared my thoughts on what Africa, and by extension, the Global South, must prioritise in upcoming climate negotiations. Drawing from the "documented lived experience" (a phrase I must attribute to the genius of Dr Joseph Mante) in Nigeria's Sankera region of Benue State, I make a case for establishing a dedicated Agriculture and Food Security Fund within the climate finance framework. Our farmers have long employed agroecological practices that work in harmony with natural ecosystems. Indeed, as it is often said, solving the climate crisis is intrinsically linked to solving the biodiversity crisis - a healthy ecosystem does more for climate stability than any artificial carbon reduction measure. These traditional methods, refined over generations, offer invaluable insights for climate-resilient agriculture. However, without proper financial backing, this potential remains largely untapped. The proposed fund would serve multiple critical functions: scaling climate-smart farming techniques, improving market access for smallholder farmers, and strengthening local food systems. This isn't merely about agriculture – it's about building resilient communities and preserving traditional knowledge while adapting to climate challenges. As we approach COP29, dubbed the '#FinanceCOP,' we have a unique opportunity to reshape the narrative around climate finance. The time has come to recognise agriculture's central role in climate resilience and food security.
