It can be really difficult navigating the job market as a Muslim but also as a Muslim woman wearing hijab. Beyond the challenges of finding a job where your skills and experience are valued, there’s the added layer of navigating perceptions. Taking prayer breaks and prioritizing salah can feel isolating when it seems like others are silently judging you or not understanding your faith commitments. This sometimes causes us to slip up, leading to inconsistent salah and, at times, a wavering in our iman. Balancing work, goals, and faith is not always easy, but it’s crucial to keep your deen and salah as the top priority, no matter what. This is just a reminder to myself and others to hold firm to what matters most. #Ancient writings and wisdom, though repeated throughout history, are incredibly valuable. This month, reading the ancient story of the character #Job, it hit me how much useable wisdom there was to glean and implement. Here's some that struck me: 1. People say stuff about many things, but often don't truly comprehend anything about much, much less everything. 2. We can be sincere in what we think or believe, but that does not mean what we think or believe is accurate or true. 3. "Rabbana Aatina fid dunya hasanatan wa fil Aakhirati hasanatan waqina ‘azab an-nar" which means "Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire." 2. "Allahumma inni as’aluka ‘ilman nafi’an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa ‘amalan mutaqabbalan" which means "O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is of benefit, a good provision, and deeds that will be accepted." 3. "Lailaha Illah Anta Subhanak Inni Kuntu Minaz Zalimeen. Wala Hawla Wala Quwata Illah Billahil Allyil Azeem" is a plea that can be translated as "There is no deity except You; exalted are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers. There is no power and no strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great. May these supplications bring you success and fulfillment in your job search.
