❗️An EU Compass to regain competitiveness and secure sustainable prosperity ❗️ European Commission presented the #CompetitivenessCompass, which sets a path for Europe to become the place where future technologies, services, and clean products are invented, manufactured, and put on the market, while being the first continent to become climate neutral. 🇪🇺Compass identifies three core areas of action, the ‘pillars’: 🔵 Closing the #innovation gap 🟢 Setting a joint roadmap for #decarbonisation and competitiveness 🔴 Reducing excessive dependencies and increasing #security With research and innovation at the heart of Europe’s competitiveness agenda among key initiatives we also have #StartupScaleupStrategy and the #EuropeanInnovationAct to simplify and streamline the regulatory framework, to facilitate access to capital, and to support innovative companies in testing new solutions and technologies 🚀 #EIC It is time for #MadeinEurope 👍🏼 More info 👉🏼 https://lnkd.in/dNcmVFvN

Poorly crafted legislation can adversely affect Europe’s technology sectors by imposing significant burdens. This then undermines Europe’s appeal for investment, innovation, and progress in the twin green and digital transitions. Orgalim has prepared a series of case studies on excessive regulatory burdens arising from EU legislation. The case studies also include recommendations to ensure that, in the long run, regulation can drive competitiveness. This case study focuses on the unnecessary administrative burden for Declarations of Conformity, instruction manuals and CE marking. This might look like the traditional industry plea "we do not want to many rules for what we do". However, this is mainly a plea for consistency across EU product legislation areas on topics where there are no good reason for divergence. Such consistency makes compliance a lot simpler even if more areas are regulated. As such, its one of the few tools which can allow politicians to regulate further relevant topics (like cyber security) without too much of a burden on industry.

This is why, in our Manifesto, we are proposing that the European Parliament create new regulations aimed at forcing manufacturers to publish and reduce their ecological footprint. Giving priority to reducing the environmental impact of digital technologies right from the manufacturing stage is a crucial first step towards achieving a sustainable digital future. This proposal is in line with legislative efforts at European Union level. However, these measures are still insufficient to fully meet the environmental challenges we face. ITI published its Tech Sector Vision on EU Sustainability Strategy to leverage the full enabling potential of technology to reach the EU’s environmental goals in the coming mandate and to deliver the clean growth that the EU is seeking. This vision sets forward four strategic priorities: 1️⃣ Strengthen public-private partnerships through a friendlier regulatory environment that enables the digital green transition. 2️⃣ Harmonize regulation, streamline innovation, and protect IP to encourage an agile, lean and safe circular economy model. 3️⃣ Combat greenwashing and simplify the verification of environmental claims. 4️⃣ Establish effective #sustainability indicators for the ICT sector. The second part of this decade is going to be critical for the future of Europe as we face high energy prices, increased geopolitical competition and deindustrialisation. The European Commission aims to reverse these trends and set Europe on a growth path with the Competitiveness Compass being the first step in this direction.
