The biggest challenge is to provide an environment for change which allows for a cultural shift across all parts of our society. Active participation of those with disability in society generally can only occur with a change in attitude. This is something that can’t be legislated; people need to see the reason why change is important. Please listen to the podcast from the Attitude Foundation. #attitudetowardsdisability

Future Seniors & Current Elders It's time to chat about something more thrilling than your morning crossword puzzle: making our government actually do something useful. Yes, you heard me right. We're talking about two crucial e-petitions that need your John Hancock. Because if we don't speak up, our older generation is heading straight for the joyless world of institutional care faster than you can say "bureaucratic nightmare." What's the deal with these e-Petitions? Let me break it down for you: EN6225 - Support at Home: Exclusions Championed by: Peter Willcocks The Gist: This petition highlights how the current Support at Home program is like a bad joke, full of exclusions that could strip away essential home care services. Picture your grandma being shuffled off to a care home because the system decided she doesn’t quite fit their narrow criteria. Signing this means demanding the government fix these ridiculous exclusions and let more folks receive care at home, keeping their dignity intact. EN6242 - Support at Home: Choice Pushed by: Paul Absalom The Pitch: Ever tried getting a personalized pizza & ended up with something that looks like a toddler's art project? That’s our current home care system for you—restrictive and unaccommodating. This petition is your chance to push for a system that actually respects individual choices and needs, so our seniors get the personalized, dignified care they deserve. Why Should You Care Enough to Sign? Guard Independence: Let's keep our elders in their homes, living their lives, not just existing in a care facility. Boost Quality of Life: Demand services that recognize everyone’s unique preferences. Dodge Institutional Hell: Help prevent the elderly from being corralled into institutions due to lack of adequate home support. e- petitions EN6225 :- Support at Home: Exclusions requested by Peter Willcocks https://nkd.in/gWgye5-K EN6242 :- Support at Home: Choice requested by Paul Absalom https://nkd.in/gq72FZva Here’s the deal: Open each link, give the petitions a read, and hit "SIGN THIS PETITION" (the big blue box at the bottom). Toss in your name and email, and confirm via the email they’ll send you. Sign these petitions, EN6242 & EN6225, right now. We’ve got until the 26th of June, 2024, to rally the numbers. Your support is the lifeline that ensures our seniors live with the respect they deserve. Let’s shake things up and make a real difference.

We often hear about unintended consequences that come from a social policy that has good intentions. And it’s so important we all learn from them so the same mistakes are not repeated . This podcast from the highly regarded Freakonomics team looks at a few examples including the impact on employment for people with disability in America after the passing of the famous Americans with Disabilities Act which had a goal to increase it. The outcome? Not good. What resonates for me in this space is the campaign by some to close special schools and end supported employment to achieve greater inclusion. It’s a great intention/goal and its one I am committed to , but history tells us repeatedly things nearly always aren’t as simple as they seem and often the outcomes that result from well intentioned Policies are not achieved or are even worse. https://lnkd.in/gKhsDTjw

I was honored to be on Revealing Voices podcast. It is a faith-based, peer-led, story-driven, stigma-breaking podcast that explores the question, "What does healing mean to you?" I spoke on radical acceptance and invisible dynamic disabilities. I encourage you to listen to this and other episodes as they are interesting, enlightening and encouraging. #dynamicdisabilities #mentalhealth #selfcare #advocacy https://lnkd.in/gR2Wntyu

Listened to this interesting episode from The Wall Street Journal podcast on the way home from NY yesterday about website accessibility and what it meant for a small online business in Pennsylvania. Accessibility is not just for physical locations. If you have a website and would like me to review it for accessibility please let me know!

Fascinating podcast about ADA Website Accessibility and small business. Sadly, there are lawyers exploiting small business owners. However, it would be great if small business could get ahead of this - since it can increase their customer base as well: #adawebsite #adacompatibility #wcag https://lnkd.in/g2iGareN
