A research project which brings together The Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore (Cambridge CARES), Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd. and Metis will evaluate the real impacts of the fuels offered to solve shipping’s #decarbonization dilemma. The International Maritime Organization’s strategy for #greenhousegases aims at ships reaching #netzero GHG emissions by around 2050 and ensuring uptake of near-zero GHG fuels by 2030. However, reliable real-world data regarding the impact of different #lowcarbonfuels is elusive. At the recent launch of ASPIRE2A and ASPIRE2A+, Dr. Chang Wei KANG and Daniel Wise from A*STAR - Agency for Science, Technology and Research Centre for Maritime Digitalisation (C4MD), led by the A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (IHPC) Centre, highlighted how NSCC Singapore's supercomputing resources are enabling the maritime sector to adopt alternative fuels, supporting Singapore’s broader decarbonisation efforts. Precise risk assessments are crucial for handling new fuels like methanol and ammonia. NSCC Singapore's high performance computing (HPC) resources supported the development of multi-fidelity digital models to predict gas plume dispersion during bunkering operations, providing a realistic view of emission dispersion and addressing safety challenges posed by these new fuels. These efforts have supported pioneering trials, including Singapore's first methanol bunkering and ammonia-powered vessel, reinforcing Singapore's position as a sustainable global bunkering hub. #Supercomputing #HPC #Maritime #LowCarbonFuels #Bunkering #Innovation #NSCCSingapore #SingaporeTech

As International Chairman of CCS Brasil, this piece highlights my contributions to Brasil's crucial CCS Tech Summit in Rio de Janeiro. This international event builds on our participation in enacting South America's first CCS legislation, including my involvement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) on this initiative. This piece (link is in the comments) also covers: • Brazil's Empresa de Pesquisa Energética and Innovation Norway executing a vital MoU to enhance regional and international cooperation. • The “International Experiences and Collaboration,” that I moderated which featured important #European organizations, including Innovation Norway. • My pronounced MoU discussion with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consul General, Mette Tangen. • Our discussion mirrored those I had with the U.S. DOE, as well as Brazilian and #Scottish government entities, about furthering global net zero cooperation. Lastly, CCS Brasil's Co-Founders Nathália Weber and Isabela Morbach made this all a reality! #International #LowCarbon #Leadership

🇨🇭🇳🇴 Switzerland-Norway cooperation on #CCS and #CDR Two days of exchange between Swiss and Norwegian stakeholders in Zurich last month. Organised by both governments, the aim was to generate collaboration between stakeholders of both countries. It was great to meet in person many of the stakeholders we work with on a regular basis. 💭 A lot of interesting discussions to choose from, but here are a few: ➡️ Financial institution & CO2 infrastructure players recommended to remove the financial guarantee requirements for storage contracts, as it excludes small and medium size emitters, adds cost to the value chain and makes the emitter bear the full risk. ➡️ First movers have the daunting task of setting up the CO2 value chain and this will benefit the entire CCS industry – they should be incentivised rather than bear the full risk ➡️ Swiss emitters need to aggregate to be integrated in the EU plans for CO2 transport infrastructure, and to make their value chain more efficient ➡️ Most BECCS projects currently need both CDR sales and subsidies in order to be financially viable ➡️ The number of BECCS methodologies is growing with heterogeneous quality standards, making it even more complicated for CDR buyers to navigate → many look to the #CRCF to set the minimum quality standards (unclear how it will impact Swiss compliance market standards) 🙏🙏 A huge thanks to Sophie Wenger & Veronika Elgart for inviting us to contribute to this event, and to the City of Zürich for hosting. Airfix is leading the Carbon Rhine Route (CO2RR) CETPartnership project, involving ChemOil Logistics AG, Northern Lights JV and Carbon Impact France – we hope to further foster cooperations between Switzerland and Norway.

Eons of geology and centuries of history have resulted in an interesting situation in the Asia Pacific region, with locations where carbon dioxide is produced being in different countries from where it could potentially be stored. This makes enabling cross-border transport and accounting of CO2 key to progressing CCUS as a lever to reduce emissions.
ANGEA is very honoured to have had the opportunity to launch the outcomes of our groundbreaking Cross-Border CCS Study at the Japan CCS Forum in Tokyo today. Our CEO Paul Everingham delivered a keynote speech reflecting on the enormous potential for cross-border CCS to drive decarbonisation in Asia and how our study will support a still nascent policy environment to develop greater fluency and harmonisation. As Paul noted: "With hard work and good will, we are confident that cross-border CCS will play a crucial role in Asia Pacific into the future." We are grateful to our partners on the study Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and also to the Global CCS Institute for granting the opportunity to be part of this event.
