🇪🇺 In 2020, the European Commission announced the development of European Data Spaces across ten domains. These Data Spaces provide the technological foundation for open #data #ecosystems and new business opportunities, including data-driven services. For #interdisciplinary #service researchers, these emerging Data Spaces represent novel and complex phenomena, encompassing technological, regulatory, and managerial elements. To help you navigate the numerous research opportunities, #SMR authors Arthur Kari, Tim Schurig, and Martin Gersch have recently published their article, "The Emergence of a New European Data Economy: A Systematic Research Agenda for Health Data Spaces." By focusing on health data spaces, the authors propose a systematic research agenda at the intersection of information systems and service research. It was a truly inspiring day filled with insightful discussions, expert presentations, and collaborative workshops. The final roundtable underscored the importance of strategic policy intelligence, recognizing that traditional equilibrium-based approaches are insufficient in a world characterized by rapid technological and societal shifts. System Dynamics proved to be a powerful tool for collaborative policymaking, as we explored multi-level scenarios on a Miro board, delving into the future of EU, national, and regional policies. This powerful tool can help us understand complex systems, identify feedback loops, and simulate the impact of different policy interventions, also paired with other techniques, such as Agent-Based Modelling. A special thanks to the creators of the POLYTRoPOS model, a valuable work-in-progress tool for ex-ante evaluation of transformative innovation policies. I eagerly anticipate its future development. The changes you can see in 1 year are 🤯! Last year, when we attended IIEX Europe by Greenbook events with iVisual, we left feeling somewhat disappointed. IIEX is a premier conference for research & insights, and given our deep engagement with A.I., Machine Learning, and data analytics, it was surprising to find the focus still on traditional topics like panel management, crafting better research questions, and improving qualitative research efficiency. However, this year’s event exceeded our expectations in every way. We were thrilled to witness the significant advancements in the research industry. Not only were the major research agencies and brands present, but we also saw a surge of innovative start-ups disrupting the field with cutting-edge research software. Everything—from the brands and suppliers to the seminars and the expo—was spot on.
