We're excited to share Colin Lumsden has joined Team Talent as our new Chief Revenue Officer. Get to know Colin with our Q&A. Tell us a little about yourself. I have over 25 years of global experience in education technology organizations including Pearson, 2U/EdX, and ApplyBoard as well as time at York University in their School of Continuing Studies unit. I've worked in pre-revenue, start-up, and scale up organizations in functions including business development, account management, marketing, operations, and learning design in sectors including workforce development, international education, and online program management. I've also had the pleasure of helping over 100,000 students with their educational goals and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Higher Education at the University of Toronto. What’s one thing that has improved your work life? Showing my age, but paper-based "to do" lists. I find the physical process of creating and managing them very effective in helping to code/prioritize and the satisfaction of crossing/checking off is also very tangible and real. I do believe in and use platforms and digital options too, I am not a Luddite. What are you passionate about outside of work? My family first and foremost, but also football (proper, not American), cars, and music. What's the most interesting workforce trend you've read about lately? Skills overtaking degree as the “paper ceiling” dissolves. It's been a developing trend for some time now, but for alternative credentials and/or workforce entry and workforce development models, where skills and competencies are paramount, is a very interesting and exciting change. We've seen adoption from big companies in hiring and development practices and policies, traditional academia getting on board with new offerings and units, and it has the potential to reduce costs (for the individual, organization and/or institution), accelerate learning and application, and promote a lifelong learning ecosystem that is more tailored to personal development paths.

And, I am super stoked for the Manufacturing Ally Rally event that I am co-hosting with some of the sector's most inspirational peeps: Drew Crowe, Toni Neary, and Chris Luecke. On day three, I'll be moderating the panel discussion Empowering Talent: New Approaches to Job Roles in Manufacturing. The main objective of this panel discussion is to examine the need to redefine job roles and descriptions within the #manufacturing sector to align with emerging technologies, shifting skill requirements, and evolving workforce demographics. By exploring innovative approaches to job design, we aim to equip attendees with strategies for attracting, retaining, and developing talent in the manufacturing industry. Key Takeaways: Agility and Adaptability: Understand the importance of creating agile job roles and descriptions that can adapt to technological advancements, market dynamics, and changing business needs. Skills-Based Approach: Embrace a skills-based approach to job design that focuses on identifying and leveraging transferable skills rather than rigid qualifications or job titles. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Promote cross-functional collaboration and interdisciplinary skill development within manufacturing organizations to foster innovation and address complex challenges. Talent Development Strategies: Explore effective talent development strategies, including #upskilling, #reskilling, and continuous learning initiatives, to empower employees to thrive in evolving job roles. 🎇Now that we’re halfway through December, it feels like the perfect moment to pause and reflect on what a year it’s been. At the start of the year, I took on the challenge of leading both the Recruitment Marketing Team and the Sourcing Team. Marketing was never my favorite subject in school, but through years of experience in sourcing—and the amazing support of my colleagues—I discovered that I could really enjoy it. What truly made this year special was having the opportunity to lead a team full of talented individuals, each with their own unique strengths and perspectives. In May, we finally got to meet in real life at our People Gathering—a moment full of energy and connection. I also had the chance to get to know some colleagues better and see them in a new, light. These moments of connection reminded me just how much we can learn from each other. This year also gave me the opportunity to expand my network and meet so many inspiring people outside of the organization. These interactions helped me grow and see things from different perspectives—something I’m incredibly grateful for. Of course, this year wasn’t without its challenges. I had to say goodbye to several colleagues often with a lot of pain in my heart and, once again, reinvent parts of my role. Reinvention has become a recurring theme in my career—but I’ve learned to embrace it. Reinventing myself keeps me growing, and growth is what keeps me motivated and engaged. As we approach 2025, I’m excited about the possibilities ahead with infinite possibilities. I can’t wait to take them on with my fantastic colleagues by my side. 🍾To my team: Thank you for your trust, energy, and creativity. You inspire me every day. 🍾To my colleagues and mentors: Thank you for your encouragement and guidance—you’ve made this journey all the more rewarding. 🍾To the new connections I’ve made this year: Thank you for your fresh insights and for broadening my horizons. Here’s to closing 2024 on a high note and stepping into 2025 with ambition, resilience, and a mindset of growth! 🚀 #Leadership #RecruitmentMarketing #Sourcing #Networking #GrowthMindset #Teamwork #YearInReview

How quickly does the future become the present? Never not learning, never not curious. This will be the title of my keynote today being part of the HR Minds conference organized by business factors Deutschland GmbH, taking part the next two days at Schloss Bensberg where HR decision makers will come together. I chose this title as curiosity and learning are two aspects which play a major and continous role in my life. I will talk about why organisations should choose the way of becoming learning organisations and what this actually mean. Is it just the next buzzword of the HR bubble? Well, I doubt it BUT of course – it depends. As always. It depends how serious we take it and if we succeed in transforming our #workforce into a #skillforce. When it comes to learning we quickly talk about systems, tools, platforms or strategies as HR departments - important and right, no doubt. My keynote will go a few steps back talking about the basics of learning cultures and in parallel aims to create new hypothesis when it comes to future-oriented learning. I am convinced there is one question in particular we might address and understand in depth when it comes to learning. How quickly does the future become the present? When is knowledge real knowledge? When is knowledge you have acquired deeply learned, i.e. relevant for you, for your organisation and hence for the planet? #Knowledge is relevant when it gets #shared, when we #dream in #problems and #think in #interdisciplinary worlds. All what I will combine in my keynote and will share more thoughts afterwards. Of course, having my recent trip to #China in mind, and still being overwhelmed and so inspired, I will share my thoughts on what we could learn from China’s learning culture. One for sure: be #quick and don’t wait for change or to be changed. More to share after the keynote. 💡 #futureofwork #futurelearning #curiosity
