🔍 Public scrutiny is crucial for preventing the misuse of EU funds and ensuring public money benefits those who need it most. EU Member States need to create safe spaces for civil society organisations so they can actively participate in policy decisions and bring about a just energy transition. ☑ The European code of conduct on partnership, which guides effective participation in EU programming, is vital for upholding the rule of law. It also strengthens public scrutiny by providing better access to information, thereby increasing transparency and accountability. 🤝 By applying these principles to cohesion policy funds, partners can better adapt policies and programmes to our changing times. ℹ Read our new briefing to find out more: https://lnkd.in/d4xc4R6B

MEETEU - To give insight into this new form of citizen participation, we had Citizens' Panel participant Marie-Luise and project coordinator Constantın Schäfer join us this week. Many of us want a greater say in politics, but few know about the 𝐄𝐔 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬' 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐬. This spring, 150 randomly selected citizens from across the EU met in Brussels. With expert help, they made concrete recommendations for future legislation. The recent panels focused on "Energy Efficiency" and "Tackling Hatred in Society." Read their recommendations here: 🔸Hatred in Society: https://lnkd.in/dzbJV_vq 🔹Energy Efficiency: https://lnkd.in/dez9ffGE Parallel to the Citizens’ Panels, there's an 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐞 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬, support proposals, and comment. 🔹Current debate "Hatred in Society": https://lnkd.in/dbUZVk5E

"Two years ago, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre promised a “plain language law” for government laws and policies if he becomes prime minister. He wants bureaucrats and politicians to communicate simply and clearly to Canadians," David McLaughlin, BA (Hons), MA, MBA wrote in a recent piece for Policy Options, published by the Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP). "This is a good idea. He should carry it further by simplifying and clarifying the laws and policies in the first place — starting with his party’s approach to climate change."
