Mapping India’s Coal Riches: Key Producing Regions and Their Significance India, the world’s second-largest producer of coal, possesses vast reserves of this fossil fuel. Its distribution across the country has played a crucial role in shaping regional economies and industrial development. The primary coal-producing region in India is Jharkhand, accounting for over one-third of total production. Its dense coalfields have fueled the growth of power plants and heavy industries in eastern India. West Bengal, another major coal producer, is home to the Raniganj Coalfield, which supplies coal to the industrial hubs of Kolkata and its surroundings. Madhya Pradesh, located in central India, hosts the Singrauli Coalfield, one of the largest opencast coal mines in Asia. This region plays a vital role in meeting the energy demands of northern and western India. Odisha and Chattisgarh in eastern India are also significant coal producers. Their reserves have supported the development of steel plants and other industries in the region. Significance of Coal-Producing Regions: Economic Drivers: Coal remains a primary source of energy for India’s industries, power generation, and transportation sectors. The availability of coal in these regions has catalyzed economic growth and job creation. Industrial Hubs: Coal-producing regions have attracted heavy industries, such as power plants, steel mills, and cement factories, leading to the development of industrial clusters. Transportation Infrastructure: The transportation of coal requires extensive rail and road networks, which has improved connectivity and facilitated regional development. Understanding the distribution of India’s coal resources is crucial for planning energy security, economic development, and environmental sustainability. These coal-producing regions continue to be key drivers of India’s industrial growth and energy mix. #CoalMining #EnergyResources #EconomicDevelopment

Can silver become more precious than gold? Silver is shining. In India, prices have crossed Rs 1 lakh per kg! Demand has doubled from last year. Silver's demand is being driven not just by its traditional uses but by massive industrial demand. It is now being used extensively in solar panels for renewable energy, in EVs, in advanced healthcare, electronics and many other technologies. This combination of being precious and functional is rare and the demand supply gap is increasing. It is the new critical mineral of the future. Our Hindustan Zinc, we are producing silver sustainably with a 100% solar-powered refinery. At first, it was difficult to make silver but because of our brilliant engineers and technologists today we are one of the largest producers of silver in the world -- our aim is to be number 1 -- and sell our entire production in India. Our not-for-profit industrial park for zinc and silver in Rajasthan will welcome thousands of downstream industries which can do value addition to silver and create lakhs of jobs.

Anil Agarwal Sir, your thoughts on silver truly capture the remarkable shift we are witnessing in its value and importance. Silver is increasingly seen as not just a precious metal, but a critical resource in emerging technologies that are driving global sustainability. The fact that silver is now integral to solar panels, electric vehicles, advanced healthcare, and other cutting-edge industries highlights its growing utility. The demand surge, coupled with the challenges of its supply, certainly positions silver as a “critical mineral” of the future. I am proud of the strides Hindustan Zinc has made in this sector, especially with its innovative and sustainable approach. Using 100% solar-powered refineries not only showcases our commitment to green energy but also sets a global benchmark for responsible mining practices. Your vision for a not-for-profit industrial park dedicated to zinc and silver in Rajasthan will indeed be transformative, opening doors for numerous downstream industries. This initiative will not only boost India’s position in the global silver market but also create millions of jobs, adding value at every stage of the value chain. Silver's role is becoming central to India’s industrial growth, and as we continue to innovate, India will undoubtedly emerge as a leader in both production and application. #SilverRevolution #SustainableDevelopment #CleanEnergy #JobCreation #DeshKiZarooratonKeLiye Anil Agarwal
