💡 On 13 November, Jana Haasová, CEER Vice President, represented CEER at the European Energy Forum’s Energy Debate in the European Parliament. Speaking on the role of regulators in shaping a secure, #sustainable, and #affordable electricity market for 2030 and beyond, Jana highlighted CEER’s commitment to policies that balance energy #security, sustainability, and consumer affordability. National regulatory authorities, as independent entities, play a unique role in the energy market, ensuring that public interest is safeguarded while overseeing a complex and dynamic sector. The debate, chaired by EEF President and MEP Tsvetelina Penkova, also featured insights from Wolfgang Urbantschitsch, Executive Director of E-Control, and Oliver Koch, Deputy Head of Unit at DG ENER, each offering perspectives on regulatory strategies for the electricity market. The event covered valuable discussions on Europe’s energy future, bringing together different ideas to help build a strong and sustainable electricity market. #EnergyDebate #EuropeanEnergyForum #ElectricityMarket #EnergyRegulation #SustainableEnergy #EU2030 #EnergySecurity #ConsumerAffordability

The Electricity Grid is at the heart of Europe Political actions: We clearly see after the EU Grid Forum (Sept 2023) and EU Grid Action plan in Nov, a continuity from European Commission (DG Energy), to focus on Electricity Grid. Thanks to ENTSO-E to organise this Monday with Commissioner Kadri Simson, and Ministry Van Der Straeten, Belgian Presidency of the EU Council 2024, EIB (European Bank of Investment) Thomas Ostros through an intensive exchange with main EU Industry Associations, as ENTSO-E, EU DSO Entity, E.DSO, and Manufacturers as T&D Europe, and Europacable, SolarPower Europe etc. The Main sessions were about 1/ optimise Supply Chain, simplify Procurement and leverfage Standardisation 2/ Financing (Public, Private) 3/ Regulation evolution Needs. It was an honor, for me, to represent the EU Standardisation ESOs, in support of Elena Santiago Cid, Cen Cenelec Director General, to ensure the actions to be decided (Common Practices, Procurement, Regulation) are well connected to Standardization works, , completed per the High level Forum for Standardisation (EU Green Electricity alliance) proposals, supported per European Commission DG Grow..

Last Tuesday, #GEODE Policy Advisor, Federica BRUNI, and Technical Advisor, Anna Smičková, attended the European Energy Forum Dinner Discussion with the European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič in Strasbourg. It was a valuable opportunity to reflect on the closing European Parliament term and to understand the Commission main priorities for the next mandate: 📌 The implementation of EU legislation with a minimization of bureaucratic burdens for the industry, 📌 The enhancement of EU’s energy autonomy by putting efforts in lowering prices for the consumers, 📌 The strengthening and improvement of energy infrastructure, 📌 A focus on EU’s competitiveness at the global level with particular attention on domestic value chains, 📌 The creation of an EU single market of clean technologies. Thanks to the European Energy Forum for inviting us to this event and looking forward to further enriching discussions! Cost-effectiveness, speed and resilience: today, Torben Brabo, GIE President presented #SectorIntegration's benefits at the European Commission's #FlorenceForum. How to unlock its full potential ⤵ 🤝 Build on synergies Europe needs to build on synergies between energy carriers, instead of the existing silo-thinking approach. Sector coupling can help with that. It enables infrastructures to be #cheaper, #faster and more #resilient. ⛓ Look further into value chains It allows for the mitigation of more barriers, thus accelerating the energy transition. 📚Latest GIE studies show: 🔹EU can repurpose methane pipelines to hydrogen and maintain a high level of supply security 🔹EU needs underground hydrogen storage (#UHS) to support flexibility needs in the power sector. 🔹Read the studies: https://lnkd.in/dVWGFjZn ⏭ Next steps GIE invites the EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), ENTSO-E, and EU DSO Entity to involve a broader selection of stakeholders in their EU methodology on flexibility. 📍About the Florence Forum: The annual European Electricity Regulatory Forum - or Florence Forum - was created by the European Commission. This 39th edition addresses the cross-border trade of electricity and involves institutional, industry, and regulatory decision-makers from the whole EU energy landscape.

Very good report and worth reading if you are interested in how innovative solutions indvidually but also combined ( Infinigrid AS ) can increase grid capacity on system level by 35%.
It's great to see Christian Pilgaard Zinglersen , Director of EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), including some of the results from our most recent study, 'Prospects for Innovative Power Grid Technologies', at the opening day of the Copenhagen Infrastructure Forum. Innovative grid technologies can greatly improve the network capacity of the grid, as well as bringing down costs compared to conventional expansion, and will need to play a big role in Europe's decarbonisation efforts. 💡The study carried out with Compass Lexeconand supported by Breakthrough Energy , examines eight different innovative grid technologies, analyses the potential of innovative grid technologies through cases studies, and assesses the role they can play in helping Europe reach its decarbonistion goals. 📩You can download the full study here: https://lnkd.in/eWywpFYb #CopenhagenInfrastructureForum #energyIF #ProspectsforInnovativePowerGridTechnologies

EU level Electricity Grid Conference with Boston Consulting Group (BCG) as the exclusive consulting partner This week marked a flagship event of the Hungarian EU Presidency, discussing #electricitygrids, their evolution, investment needs, technical challenges, and its financing alternatives. Apart from the insightful presentations, we had three interesting panel discussions on Policy and regulation, on Technological challenges of TSOs and DSOs, moderated by Balazs Kotnyek and on Financing challenges and opportunities, moderated by Adam Karakas. In my closing remarks I was talking about the changing roles but also emerging new responsibilities of the key players: #Networkcompanies have to invest more, but they also need to invest smartly and I believe now they have an even greater responsibility for coming up with smart solutions regarding technologies, market design approaches and also regulations. #Regulators on the other hand also must listen more, and develop new, more flexible approaches, giving more space and freedom to network companies to find smarter ways. And finally, #policymakers need to be smart in managing the transition in an affordable way and putting subsidies where they’re really needed in order to secure an affordable transition. As a consultant, I couldn’t come off stage without giving some advice :) 1) Adopt a change #mindset and feel responsible for people and industries not only for your networks 2) Think holistically in a #vectorintegrated manner to avoid stranded assets and overpay (electricity, gas, heat, H2) 3) Learn from each other and not only from players in the EU, but also in Australia, California, the UK etc. where some of the changes have already taken place 4) Put #numbers on the table, also financials 5) Work together - not only as TSOs, DSOs, Regulators and Governments on a national level but also as the EU to regain our competitiveness Thank you for the insightful discussion on our panel Attila Steiner, Christian Pilgaard Zinglersen, Vincenzo Ranieri and Zbyněk Boldiš! #gridtransition #competitivness #affordability #energytransition #HU24EU #bcg Eurelectric, EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER), ENTSO-E, EU DSO Entity
