Some key takeaways from the panel and audience questions: 💭 The VCM’s transformation towards higher quality is well under way with more primary market participants and a 10x yearly growth in removal credits. The building blocks to reform the market are there, now is the time for collective, targeted efforts to put them into action. 💭 We won’t suddenly have a magic pool of carbon removal credits when the net-zero years come in 2025 and after - we need incentives to grow this pool towards net-zero. Companies acting now have measurable benefits with regards to pricing and procurement risks while stimulating the market. 💭 Removals provide an accredited form of reduction on the way to #netzero. Collaboration between buyers and suppliers can accelerate carbon removal investment that is measurable and impactful by pooling financing streams. 💭 As this market develops, it’s vital all players stick to the data and are radically transparent about their measurable impact. To this end, the interplay between regulators and #compliance, and the incentives they provide, is essential in boosting demand. We covered a lot of ground, but one message is burningly clear: The time to start is now. This might mean developing a comprehensive transition strategy, deciding how carbon credits fit into existing plans, and pulling the trigger on first investments. That way, pricing, supply, and reputational risks can be managed early. We are all in this fight together.
