As we close the year, I’m reflecting on two powerful quotes shared during MICROCON 2024 this November: • "In contradiction and paradox, you can find truth." – Denis Villeneuve (quoted by Dr. Rajeev Soman during his insightful talk on molecular diagnostics). • "A post-antibiotic era means, in effect, an end to modern medicine as we know it." – Dr. Margaret Chan (quoted by Dr. Devashish Desai during the HAI workshop conducted by Ruby Hall Clinic). *As the challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is becoming unsurmountable day by day, it is time to think if we are really heading towards a solution in this current state of affairs. While it’s inspiring to meet friends and colleagues, listen to impactful talks, and present research in various forums, two questions are stuck with me: ❓️How do we bridge the gap between the many parallel universes in AMR research? -There’s incredible progress everywhere yet the path forward often feels fragmented. Where do we go from here? ❓️Why can’t we change the language around AMR? -Terms like combating, fighting, battling, curbing, war and superbugs? Does this aggressive terminology hinder collaboration or oversimplify the complexity of the issue? What if we shifted the narrative to focus on stewardship, prevention, and resilience? On a personal note, I have been exploring the use of data analytics for precision medicine in antimicrobial stewardship and had the opportunity to present my findings at this year’s conference. It was a wonderful experience. The insights gained at MICROCON 2024, particularly during the session on Artificial Intelligence by my close friends and colleagues under the expert guidance of Dr. Balaji from CMC Vellore was an eye opener. I am pleased to announce the publication of our latest research paper in IEEE Access, a Q1 journal. The paper, titled “LivMarX: An Optimized Low-Cost Predictive Model using Biomarkers for Interpretable Liver Cirrhosis Stage Classification,” is now available on IEEE Xplore. This research presents an innovative and cost-effective model that leverages biomarkers to provide interpretable classifications of liver cirrhosis stages. Our model not only aims to enhance early detection and treatment but also strives to be accessible and implementable in resource-limited settings, potentially transforming the landscape of liver cirrhosis diagnosis and management. Our paper, titled “Controllable and Efficient Multi-Class Pathology Nuclei Data Augmentation using Text-Conditioned Diffusion Models,” introduces a novel approach to multi-class nuclei data augmentation.
