Today I have joined a panel on #OffshoreWind in Germany at #WindEurope in Bilbao. After some years with very low build out speed is picking up again and a very ambitious target of 30GW by 2030 have been set. We at #SiemensGamesa are getting ready for the build out and have just launched serial production of our SG 14-222 DD in Cuxhaven. Build out of infrastructure, especially installation harbors e.g. extension of Cuxhaven harbor will be key. Furthermore adaptation of existing auctioning system (uncapped, negative bidding) is key to prevent a race to the bottom. There are ongoing talks on NZIA on EU level and how to introduce qualitative criteria to ensure a fair level playing field and a resilient supply chain.

As I prepare for my talk with Christina Taylor. I’ve been reflecting on the concept of sliding doors—those pivotal moments that shape the direction of our lives. For me, as someone who’s half Samoan and half English, I know I wouldn’t have pursued engineering if I hadn’t seen it as a real possibility growing up. We can only be what we see. One way we can open those doors wider for future generations is by actively working with and supporting businesses owned by Māori and Pacifica. Supplier diversity isn’t just about opportunity—it’s about visibility. By partnering with these communities, we make these career paths more accessible, and we help create an industry where everyone can see themselves.
