I was just going through the inspiring ETH Zürich's newsletter and read about the ongoing exhibitions when I stumbled upon one dedicated to the newly inaugurated Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw (MSN) in Warsaw. The topic of the exhibition resonated with some of my thoughts about the erasure of memory and the replacing of places of social attraction, related to the ordinary life of people with monuments, landmarks and "fabricated signs". I was thinking "What if a museum of modern art, a music center or any contemporary "high culture" landmark can co-exist peacefully with places of ordinary everyday life? I think it can. How is a problem which public authorities, urban planners and architects should answer specifically for every unique occasion. The hardest, I believe, is to convince them it is possible and that no, it won't hurt the city or its citizens and visitors alike. What do you think about it? It may interest NZ retailers to know that rental property investors are the only businesses in New Zealand that do not pay commercial property tax.  Way?  Yes way.   Property investors are quite open about the fact they are operating a business since they deduct the interest and declare the revenue in their tax returns every year.  However councils continue to only charge them private residential rates which are upto four times lower that what your members pay?  This is unfair and can be fixed through a council vote.  This change could mean lower lease/rent for retailers across the country.

Regardless of how advanced (or self-aware) technology becomes, its purpose is still to benefit the lives of humans. Humanity is at the core of what we do. The term "we" here refers to everyone involved in the technology space, which is essentially nearly everyone these days. We need to keep the focus on people, both internal and external to our organizations. Focus on providing value to people, supporting others, lifting people up. This can look many different ways and be masked in KPIs, business drivers, expected outcomes, SLAs, visions, purpose statements, company values, etc., but don't let the quantitative nature of measuring and managing cause you to lose sight of what we are working to improve the experience of - people.
