Excited to start CICA Lab next week and be part of the second cohort! Working in a Health Prototyping Centre and having used human centred design and design sprints for many years it may seem like Clinical Innovation is something we're doing all the time and we are certainly working with a lot of teams to come up with a wide range of solutions to challenges across the health system. But... I realised when we move beyond concept and prototyping and into product design and development there were some questions I'd like to answer better: - How do you tailor your evidence and prototyping insights into a business case for a range of audiences? - How do you manage your IP? - How do you scale a concept into a sustainable product or business? - How do you get investment and funding for your concept to make it a reality? - What does Commercialisation mean within a government context? This may be a controversial question for the organizers of HLTH USA but when I looked up "patient" under the speaker list, only FOUR speakers (of 16 pages) popped up. So, according to my rough calculation of approximately 371 speakers, 1.08% are patients. 😨 Am I missing something? I have just returned from #SCOPEsummit where I had the privilege of contributing to a panel discussion titled "The Next Horizon of Clinical Research: Integrating Research into the Care Continuum” brilliantly facilitated by Katherine Taylor. It was a true pleasure joining Uli Broedl and Janice Chang in a conversation about opportunities and barriers to giving patients access to clinical research as part of their overall healthcare journey. As we continue to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of clinical research, I believe we need to shift our focus to an even more patient-centered approach that puts the needs of patients first. I am committed to championing this shift because patient engagement is an integral aspect of successful clinical trials.
