Gaza’s media office says Israeli attacks on mosques, schools and markets “packed with civilians” have killed at least 20 Palestinians across the enclave in the past 24 hours. Here is the breakdown according to the office: * Attacks on two mosques in the Nuseirat refugee camp killed one person. * Attacks on a UN-run school and the Malaysian school in the Nuseirat refugee camp killed three people. * Attacks on the Firas market in northern Gaza and another market in central Gaza killed another seven people. * Attacks on several residential homes in central Gaza and in the southern city of Rafah killed at least nine people. Does this look like the actions of those seeking peace. Clearly not, these are the actions of those that are beyond caring for human life, of those trapped in their insanity with its horrific blood lust. They will not stop, they are incapable of it. The killing of the children and grandchildren of the H/mas leader is just another example of them deciding who should die. What more proof do we need of their insanity of horror. While the shameful sight of the Palestinian right of self determination and statehood yet agin being stalled at UNSC, led by the ever increasingly complicit US and its criminal cronies, even through it’s supported by the majority of the world. The question that faces us all is significant. They will not stop and our current leadership is complicit in crimes against humanity. What do we do. #notinmyname #endthismadnessnow #evolutionoverrevolution

In 2023, 1 in every 69 people was forcibly displaced. Over 29,000 have died or gone missing in the Mediterranean in the past decade. What did they all have in common? They were seeking safety. Each of these deaths is a stark indictment of political hypocrisy, indifference, and shameful policies that continue to kill. EU complicity in this tragedy is undeniable as European leaders shake hands with authoritarian regimes, signing off on dirty deals that effectively seal a death sentence for refugees. As conflicts rage in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, Myanmar, and many more countries, the EU is failing to uphold its responsibilities. Fueled by the far-right, Europe is facilitating attacks on human rights, erecting walls, financing fences, undermining search and rescue operations, and criminalising NGOs and human rights defenders. Seeking safety is not a crime. We demand a Europe where refugees are welcomed. #WorldRefugeeDay

A helpful map from UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency illustrating that most refugees and other displaced people move within countries, or to neighbouring countries. This is one topic that comes up in our Working Group dialogues. G7 members accommodate relatively small numbers of refugees and asylum seekers compared to the total global population of people being displaced. #SafePathways for #HumanMobility and systems to accelerate incoming peoples' access to work visas and lodging is doable with current numbers. Instead, at present, G7 policymakers prefer to lean heavily on alarmist narratives and costly, ineffective, and cruel border externalization programmes, when simple actions could be taken to accommodate rapid resettlement and access to work Pairity; #HumanFlourishing #Opportunity International Labour Organization; Committee on Workers' Capital
Very important map from UNHCR @Refugees captures forcibly displaced populations overlaid onto conflict zones and climate-stressed areas. https://lnkd.in/g5p69a-f

At the end of 2023, an estimated 117.3 million people worldwide were forcibly displaced due to persecution, conflict, violence, human rights violations and events seriously disturbing the public order. Based on operational data, UNHCR estimates that forced displacement has continued to increase in the first four months of 2024 and by the end of April 2024 is likely to have exceeded 120 million. UNHCR’s annual #GlobalTrends report on the state of forced displacement shows record levels of people #ForcedToFlee. unhcr.org/globaltrends

In a tragic turn of events, recent violent attacks on three remote villages in Papua New Guinea have claimed the lives of 26 people, including 16 children, according to the United Nations. The attacks occurred in the East Sepik province and have been linked to disputes over land and lake ownership. Over 200 people have been forced to flee their homes, which were set on fire during the violence. UN Human Rights Chief Volker Turk has condemned the horrific violence and highlighted the urgent need for action to address the crisis. PNG, known for its complex tribal dynamics and recent shifts to military weapons, faces increasing violence as long standing disputes are exacerbated. The situation continues to evolve as authorities search for missing individuals and work to support displaced communities. #PapuaNewGuinea #UN #HumanRights #Conflict #TribalViolence

⚠ We are pleased to share with you Asylos’ latest Country of Origin Information (COI) on #Palestine #Gaza: United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East UNRWA: https://lnkd.in/e9JtmdVC This information is aimed at individuals or organizations working on the situation of stateless persons of Palestinian origin who are registered with UNRWA and applying for international protection. There has been landmark regional case law in which the Court of Justice of the European Union ruled on the legal status of such applicants. In this case, the Court reiterated that Article 10(3)(b) of Directive 2013/32 obliges Member States to obtain updated country information. The report is a rapid response to urgently needed information on evolving humanitarian and security conditions. The report covers: - Living conditions (degradation incompatible with human dignity) - Subsistence (material poverty) - Applicable vulnerability (child, and women and girls) - Risk of inhuman and degrading treatment - Ability of UNRWA to ensure minimum security conditions to any stateless person of Palestinian origin - Proof (or inability to prove) a stateless person of Palestinian origin had habitual residence in any one sector of UNRWA's areas of operation.
