Thank you to Sara Custer, Melindi Britz and Nicola Pittman for a great panel conversation this week at the Times Higher Education World Academic Summit where we discussed the evolving role of online learning in higher education. The most common question I was asked after our session was how to overcome resistance and engage faculty in online learning. Here's my top 5 .. what have I missed??
1) Make online education an explicit strategic priority for your institution and find ways to encourage and recognise faculty effort
2) Tell the story, of why online is important .. why are we doing it, how does it add value for students and why should faculty get involved?
3) Find your champions and work with them to prove the concept and establish some successful case studies that you can build on
4) Create slipstreams .. simple processes, toolkits, support and resources that will make it easier for others to get involved
5) Build a community of enthusiasts, who can share insights, best practice, support others and help to create "a buzz" around the activity
Do you agree? What would you add to this list ?
