It’s been almost two months since I joined Zafran Security, and time has flown by. If you’ve worked at a startup, you know how quickly things move. Here are the top 6 lessons I’ve learned so far: 1. People are everything - the cliché is spot on. Surrounding yourself with talented colleagues pushes you to grow beyond your limits. 2. Professional challenges drive excellence and growth. Stepping outside your comfort zone while having the right tools creates the perfect balance of progress and achievement. 3. Office culture matters. Genuine kindness and shared interests create a sense of belonging that goes beyond work. 4. Execution is key. It’s easy to dream about a great product, but executing across development, sales, marketing, and support is where the real work happens. 5. Prioritize making time for yourself. I am no Simone Biles, but I am happy to share that I have just landed a dream role! 🥳 This position is a great integration of my previous experience, provides a world-class solution to a substantial business barrier, and has a team that is just as talented as Olympic gymnasts. 🥹 I can’t wait to share more info in due time. For now, I will share this meme I made to summarize the difference between the two job markets in which I’ve actively searched. My biggest takeaway is a piece of advice from a good friend: LEAN ON YOUR NETWORK. 👩💼🧑🏽💼👨🏾💼🧑🏻💼✨ PEOPLE ARE HAPPY TO HELP. 🫂 Like gymnastics, job searching seems like an individual sport, but there is a team of people behind every performance. As humans we love validation….. I am a mere mortal too. I really like talking and now writing about things that I am passionate about. LinkedIn is my go-to platform that I write consistently. If I am excited about something, I make sure I can get others excited too. So, I think being good salesperson came naturally to me. My 1st stint at selling was when I was supporting mom doing Tupperware sales. And I was so good at it, that seasoned players in the team loved my pitches. Fast forward I did the highest ticket revenue in the team during my 1st job on inbound reservations for United Airlines. And did well with other roles that I picked up later in my career, winning awards and accolades. My 1st role in Australia too was inside sales. But when I decided to transition, I picked Recruitment. And I thought this was sales too, selling the role and employer to the candidates. And pitching the candidate to the hiring manager. And I believe that I am doing well. Before forming Merkland I thought about what would separate me from others in the space. I quickly realised It wasn't going to be a new AI model or a complex software system. I had to focus on the basics. Everything was going to be built on trust, true understanding of a niche, quality of output, and utter commitment. There have been times over the past few months, when I needed it most, where I have pulled candidates out of processes due to a lack of commitment or where I have turned down mandates due to being flat out making sure I could service other key projects in the detail that was needed. This, for me, was a non-negotiable. Quick wins may bring initial capital, which is always needed, but true partnership and positive output create long-term trust. In a world that is getting even more complex, I plan on keeping this simple focus into 2025. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘆 𝗗𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲: 𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 This is how I turned a no into a yes as a candidate for a Sales job, successfully selling myself to my future employer in the process. 🕺🏼 Just before Christmas, I was able to land a new role here in Paris. This was, without a doubt, the smoothest candidate experience I’ve ever had. 💯 What made this process stand out? Let me share the three key reasons: 💜 𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙜𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙢, 𝘼𝙪𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙩𝙮 & 𝙎𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙨 Despite being a Paris-based candidate applying for a Germany-based role, I was able to "negotiate" my way into the hiring process. Every step was accompanied by transparent communication with the recruiter, making me feel truly valued. 💜 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙚𝙙, 𝙀𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙮 & 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙘𝙝𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙨 The company tailored the pace of the process to my needs, ensuring that every concern or question I had was promptly addressed. 💜 𝙃𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙮 & 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩𝙨 I had the opportunity to meet seven of my future colleagues, gaining valuable insights into the company’s strategy and culture.
