How can we build a resilient, net-zero future without half the economy? SMEs are the backbone of our global economy. They represent 90% of businesses worldwide, generate over half of the world’s GDP and greenhouse gas emissions, and create 7 out of 10 jobs. Yet, two-thirds of SMEs already feel the impacts of climate change, and many lack the support they need to act. The International Universities Climate Alliance (IUCA), Centre for Climate Engagement, and Cambridge Zero have released the “Climate-Proofing SMEs: Drivers, Enablers & Challenges” report, exploring how SMEs can lead the charge against climate change. Key insights: • 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿: SME leaders often act on climate due to personal values and firsthand experiences with climate impacts. • 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵: Climate-proofing can unlock new markets and improve brand loyalty. • 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁: Many SMEs underestimate climate risks and the benefits of sustainable practices. • 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝘀: Grants, clear regulations, and innovation programs enable SMEs to take action. TRaCE is empowering SMEs working on climate technologies by accelerating their path to market and ensuring they have the right support to commercialise effectively. Through funding, expert guidance, workforce training, and industry connections, TRaCE helps SMEs bring their innovations to life and lead the transition to a resilient, net-zero future. 👇 Read the full report below Chaseley Cameron , Vinita Chanan, Emmanuel Mastio, Gabriella Nunes
