Google's launch of Android XR marks an important turning point for the XR industry where we see Google join Apple and Meta's commitment to the space. Some interesting takeaways: 🚀 Being an extension of Android, expect a seamless integration with existing devices and ecosystem, making it appealing to the 3.9 Billion global Android users 🚀 The Gemini integration has access to both the camera feed and virtual content allowing for a fully multi-modal AI assistant experience. The first of its kind and likely a killer use-case 🚀 The YouTube App is reported to convert 2D content to 3D (via AI of course) as well as the full library of 180, 360 and 3D content already on the platform. This will go a long way to solve the content problem inherit in any new device or ecosystem 🚀 Android XR built with glasses in mind. It is clear that HMD's are a stepping stone to a glasses based form factor and all day wearability. Orion proved that this vision is closer than we thought and clearly Google are committed to this cause Between this and the other announcements we have seen this year from Meta and Apple it is clear that these three tech giants are betting on a future that is spatial first, who is brave enough to bet against them? #androidxr #xr #spatialcomputing #vr #ar #mixedreality #google #android https://lnkd.in/e-Y9XxBV

A friend sent me this today: Google’s new Android XR platform for immersive experiences. 👀 https://lnkd.in/gP_EkPir With Google teaming up with Samsung and Qualcomm, this could be a game-changer in the XR (extended reality) space. The open nature of Android means more flexibility, collaboration, and innovation. I love being a part of the Apple ecosystem, but the above would be something Apple’s closed ecosystem might struggle to match. What’s even more exciting is the potential for AI powered applications in XR. From smarter virtual assistants and enhanced virtual environments to real-time data processing, AI could take immersive experiences to the next level. Excited to see where this goes! 🚀 #XR #Android #Innovation #TechTrends

New VR/AR headset announced: Android XR! I was an early adopter of the Apple Vision Pro earlier this year, and one of the biggest letdowns was how little lead time XR developers had between the official headset announcement and the actual launch. For us consumers, this meant very few Day 1 app options. By the time app developers did publish to the App Store, I felt that a lot of the initial hype around the Vision Pro had already died down. Excited to see how Android XR will do things differently: a more empowered app dev ecosystem means for more choices and use cases for us VR users! https://lnkd.in/eSdCmusN

“I felt as close to Tony Stark in a controlled demo as I’ll ever be” - The Verge Yesterday we announced Android XR, our platform for an XR ecosystem. Powered by Gemini, the platform showcased the potential of combining the ultimate computing form factor with the ultimate intelligent assistant. I led development of the spatial layout, which enables users to open and move virtual content. It was empowering to arrange my windows the way I wanted—breaking free from the constraints of physical screens and embracing a limitless workspace. But it was even cooler when all I had to say was “Hey Gemini, organize my windows for me”. Our developer SDK is live, complete with an emulator, so anyone can start building for Android XR today! This is just the beginning of redefining how we interact with technology. Today marks a new era for the spatial internet and immersive technologies: one of the largest electronics and display manufacturers, together with one of the leading big tech companies, officially enters the realm of Mixed Reality (MR) with the announcement of the new #Android #XR platform, designed to drive innovation further. But beyond the headlines, let’s explore why this matters: 1️⃣ No More Waiting for the "Killer App" The success of MR won’t hinge on a single breakthrough application. Instead, personalized AI agents and solutions will take center stage, becoming indispensable in our workflows and daily lives. These agents will empower us to navigate an increasingly complex world, seamlessly merging the digital and physical. 2️⃣ A Paradigm Shift in UX For years, we’ve been limited to thinking in two dimensions—screens, clicks, and swipes. Mixed Reality changes everything. With Android XR, UX is no longer bound by flat surfaces, and the way we design, interact, and experience will evolve dramatically. This is the future where we think and act in 3D. 3️⃣ Analytics & Education: The Key to Adoption While the opportunities are immense, challenges remain. Educating both brands and end users, and developing robust analytical tools to measure engagement and ROI, will be critical. Research and development are essential to bridge this gap and ensure smooth adaptation to these transformative technologies. Platforms like Android XR are just the beginning, but the journey ahead is about collaboration. Developers, brands, and researchers need to come together to unlock the full potential of MR. The future isn’t just immersive—it’s intelligent and deeply integrated into our lives. Let’s shape it together. What do you think about this announcement? How will Mixed Reality impact your industry? Share your thoughts below! https://lnkd.in/dBSZmthX #MixedReality #AndroidXR #ImmersiveTech #AI
