We track progress on our environmental goals to ensure we are responsible stewards in the areas in which we operate, focusing on the entire ammonia production value chain. As such, we evaluate areas where we have a direct emissions impact, as well as where we can partner with third parties to address emissions that occur outside our facilities.

The Environmental Protection Agency announced a final rule today in which the organization seeks to further limit “the emission of non-mercury HAP metals from existing coal-fired power plants. EPA is also tightening the emission standard for mercury for existing lignite-fired power plants to a level that is aligned with the mercury standard that other coal-fired power plants have been achieving under the current MATS." https://lnkd.in/ertm9gUk

Important / inflection points: “The case opens a new front in the legal battles against oil and gas companies over climate and environmental issues. More than two dozen state and local governments, including California, have sued companies for their role in the climate crisis, making claims that the companies deceived the public in a quest for profit. None have gone to trial yet.” The New York Times: https://lnkd.in/divXt7Bu Karen Zraick | David Gelles #lawsuit #climate #climatecrisis #pollution #plastics #environment #oilandgas #sustainability #esg #policy #publicpolicy #planetarywellbeing #wellbeing

The latest US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Global Greenhouse Gas Emissions indicator shows that between 1990 and 2015, global emissions of all major greenhouse gases increased. Between 1990 and 2020, gross emissions of carbon dioxide increased by 58 percent, which is particularly important because carbon dioxide accounts for about three-fourths of total global emissions. At Erthwrks, we actively work towards preventing the increase of global emissions by helping our clients comply with all state, federal, and international emissions testing requirements. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has rolled out four new regulations aimed at cutting down pollution from # fossil fuel # power plants. Among these changes, a significant rule mandates that many newer gas and existing coal power plants must reduce their # carbon emissions by 90% if they intend to keep operating past 2039. Additionally, the # coal # industry faces stricter guidelines to clean up toxic metal emissions, # wastewater pollution, and coal ash # management. Discover what this means for our # environment and future # generations. Read more here. #renewableenergy #powergeneration https://lnkd.in/dJfJABtn

Thanks Microsoft for supporting effective power plant rules 👏 Let's hope this step forward for the clean energy transition isn't overturned by legal challenges. #climateChange #carbonReduction #cleanEnergy #climateAdvocacy
As of this month, 25+ states along with obstructive business groups such as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, have already filed lawsuits against the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s updated soot pollution rules which set tighter standards for soot pollution from tailpipes and smokestacks, for example. In the face of these brewing legal battles and ongoing climate policy obstruction from powerful trade groups, we are presented with yet another important opportunity to advocate for ambitious regulations addressing gas power plants. Here's how you can take action: 👇 1️⃣ Submit a comment to the EPA in support of passing an ambitious regulation (https://lnkd.in/eJbWVERX). Here’s some suggested text you can customize: Achieving faster and deeper reductions from coal- and gas-fired power plants is the most important thing the United States can do to build on the Inflation Reduction Act and achieve the national target of reducing emissions 50%-52% below 2005 levels by 2030. Please ensure the new power plant rules are as strong as possible, with a goal of dramatically accelerating emissions reductions from the U.S. power sector. 2️⃣ Elevate this climate policy advocacy opportunity within your own company and urge your sustainability and/or government relations teams to weigh in with support. Share InfluenceMap’s ongoing research and analysis of corporate advocacy on these rules (https://lnkd.in/eh4c8Dtm), which indicate several opportunities for positively-engaging companies, including major power purchasers, to continue their advocacy for ambitious, effective power plant regulations.

Since 2010, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has consistently stated that electricity produced from various sources of waste methane qualifies for credits under the RFS program, and Congress has reinforced that and even appropriated funds for the EPA to begin issuing those credits. In fact, Congress recently directed the EPA to provide a briefing on planned actions for the eRIN pathway. If the EPA takes the step to finalize its proposed ground rules for producing these credits, it would produce a climate win-win: decreases both in landfill waste methane emissions and in greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector due to reduced use of gasoline and diesel.

37% of Environmental Professionals Say the Government is Unsupportive of Net Zero Goals - According to a survey by the National Environmental Services, 37% of environmental professionals believe that current government policies do not adequately support their efforts to achieve net zero goals. In the same report, which presents the survey’s findings, 80% of respondents expressed serious concerns about the integrity of cement carbon credits and other carbon credit offsetting schemes. While 33% of professionals see carbon offsetting as a viable method for achieving net-zero emissions, 37% have already employed it to reduce their businesses’ environmental impact. However, greenwashing remains a significant issue, with 94% of respondents indicating it is prevalent in the UK. Click the link below to read the full story... https://lnkd.in/dXPKFxNw
