As Domestic Violence Awareness Month takes place in October, the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence hopes we sustain the DVAM theme of “Heal, Hold & Center” throughout the year. HOLD To hold space is to be physically, mentally, and emotionally present for others. It is to listen respectfully, without judgement, so that others may feel cared for, understood, and seen. Holding space is simple, yet offers a powerful antidote to invisibility and isolation. Holding someone is an act of caring that can come in many forms beyond physical touch. The theme invites us to widen our embrace, including seniors and others we may not reach. Midwest Concussion Clinic October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Acts of violence are the 4th leading cause of concussions across all age groups and it’s widely believed to be the most underreported cause of injury. If we knew the true scope of concussion prevalence post IPV, it would be much higher than 4th. If you, or someone you know, has experienced IPV please reach out to on of the numerous resources available for help. If you’ve been through IPV, and are experiencing daily headaches, dizziness, confusion, visual problems or memory loss, you should be evaluated by a trained professional. Domestic Violence Awareness Month: It’s Time to Break the Silence As we observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month, it’s important to recognize that domestic violence takes many forms: physical, emotional, financial, and psychological abuse. It’s not just about bruises we can see—it’s about the control, the manipulation, and the fear that stays hidden behind closed doors. If SHE is a sister, friend, colleague, or neighbor, let’s stand together and create a safe space for HER to speak up. Encourage HER to prioritize her safety and well-being. Offer support and resources, and be a voice when she feels voiceless. 📢 Tag a sistah-friend who needs to hear this message today. Follow, like, and share to ensure this reaches those in need. #SheIsHerAgency #HERGlow #DomesticViolenceAwareness #EndAbuse #SupportSurvivors #SafetyFirst #BreakTheCycle

The theme for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2024 is Heal, Hold & Center. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month and beyond, it is critical that we all work together, embrace the many cultural ways we can HEAL from violence and oppression, commit to holding space for survivors, and center those most marginalized in all of our efforts to end domestic violence. Healing is an important component of our work to address domestic violence. It is necessary for those who experience harm and those who cause harm, as both may be part of each of our lived experiences. It can and should look different for each of us, depending on our unique cultural backgrounds, values, and beliefs. The theme invites us to widen our embrace, including seniors and others we may not reach.
