Center for Global Development reposted this
Big Tobacco have just posted bumper financial results. And in a Center for Global Development note published today, Chris Lane reviews recent financial reports and finds that tobacco, alcohol and sugar-sweetened beverages industry rode out the pandemic storm and continued to expand sales. In this blog Katherine Klemperer, Chris Lane and I discuss the findings in the light of limited global progress in implementing taxes on these products. We argue that this boosts the case for rapid and sustained increases in taxes - good for health and good for the budget: Blog here: https://lnkd.in/exZsV8rN May interest Angeli Vigo Rayner Odd Nikolas Hanssen Economics for Health (formerly Tobacconomics) Jeffrey Drope Robert Marten, PhD Masood Ahmed Bill Savedoff Bloomberg Philanthropies amongst others!

Very interesting graph. From the note it seems profit is also going up, even though in some cases volume is going down. Thoughts on a profit cap?
