At CRAST, We strongly believe in traditional and localized approaches to food security and other modern global challenges. Unfortunately, the modern science ignores Indigenous Knowledge (IK) condemning it to have health risks. Such great traditional post harvest and food storage method in Africa used to be effective and assured food security. But today, the science doesn't support it. Poor Africa

Building the capacity of extension service providers if we intend to achieve improved food security cannot be ignored.
USAID Eastern and Southern Caribbean's Caribbean Agricultural Productivity improvement Activity (CAPA) hosted a solutions-oriented workshop at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus. Implemented by IESC and Instituto Interamericano de Cooperación para la Agricultura (IICA) the workshop focused on enhancing extension services to improve farmer productivity across the Caribbean. Attendees included senior officials from the Caribbean Development Bank, the University of the West Indies, World Food Programme and the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries of Trinidad and Tobago. They confirmed their support for investing in extension systems to help tackle food insecurity, a key priority of the U.S. Caribbean Partnership to Address the Climate Crisis 2030.

Another insightful and timely piece from Anuna Nsekanabo. I find it stresses the need to support efforts like those by the ESAFF Uganda to promote agroecology as a sustainable and scalable agricultural paradigm for small scale farmers. They encourage knowledge exchange and integrated social, cultural, environmental, and economic considerations in the approach — which can be quite appropriate for meeting the challenges the article identifies.
Agriculture is one of Uganda's most vital sectors contributing to livelihood, food security and export earnings. Despite being blessed with a rich biodiversity where crops thrive, farmers are met with the threat posed by climate change. This ripples in the global market with high-demand products like coffee and has called for collaborative efforts to buffer the effects brought by unpredictable weather conditions. In today's piece for New Vision, I start a conversation on how compliance with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) could influence production and different actors within Uganda's coffee sector. As always, feel free to read and share your thoughts on the matter.

Transforming agri-food systems amidst the convergence of climate and bioeconomy agendas in Africa? A thoughtful panel discussion at the Global Forum on Food and Agriculture (GFFA). Overall, a very refreshing debate on current policies and potentials on the continent. Thanks for hosting AKADEMIYA2063 and kudos to the great panelists Getaw Tadesse, William R. Sutton (Bill), Cecilia D'Alessandro, Julius Ecuru - many important questions about the neglected "pain points" raised by Joachim von Braun.
