As I prepare to start another course next week (Dec 2-4) at Alamance Community College, I sit here contemplating an issue that I've had since I began teaching the Specialized Firearms Instructor Development Course, and have an announcement to make. This particular class was something I had wanted to do for years at NCJA however, I was so busy teaching other classes that I never had the chance to get it to fruition. Upon retirement I wrote the lesson plan and began teaching the class as an opportunity for continuing education for firearms trainers. I taught the very first class at Coastal Plains Law Enforcement Training Center at Wilson Community College and some of the shooting drills were still being developed at that time. One of my student instructors is and was, a great guy named Kevan Anderson of the Garner Police Department. Josh Bissette of Wilson County Sheriffs Office assisted me with the class and both Kevan and Josh gave me suggestions during the training. I had developed a drill years before that did not have a name and I had made it a part of the skills testing in the class that, upon recommendation from Kevan, became the Fast Fucking Five Challenge that students now shoot to obtain their F.F.F Challenge Coin. In absolute fairness, the test wasn't named, it didn't have a par time and it was just to see how fast the students could shoot it during this first SFID Course. Well, Kevan Anderson shot it in 8.11 seconds clean (the best in that first class) and then recommended to me that I name the test and begin to offer something like a challenge coin to students who could complete it. I took his advice however, I needed to find a good par time to hold the students to in order to make it consistent. I then had quite a few other instructors shoot the challenge, looked at their average times and decided that 7 seconds was THE par time for this course. Now, as a result of: Kevan making the suggestion that I name the test and offer a coin; the fact that Kevan shot it fastest in the first class; that I didn't have the par time when he shot it; that I receive intermittent (good-natured) nagging from Kevan and Josh about Kevan not having a coin, I have decided to award Kevan Anderson a F.F.F Challenge Coin, number one with an asterisk next to it!! Kevan may not be listed in past postings as I hadn't made this decision at the time but will be listed in all future postings from any and all classes. To loosely quote President Wilson, "friendship is the cement that holds the world together." Yes Josh, I will actually engrave the asterisk into the coin LOL!!! Great story Brother!! I like it, I know Kevan does also……….Finally!! A couple of instructors from my agency attended your development course and had great things to say regarding the skills, drills and class tempo. I had no doubt it was an amazing course! I’ll check your class offerings to see when you might be in or around Mecklenburg County, or possibly host your course locally? As always, be safe, stay frosty Blue Blood!

Chad share the parameters of the drill again. I know I’ve seen it here or elsewhere. I know it’s fast.. like cartoon characters “pweeen” fast. Remind me of the layout, I want my coin

Hmmm I think I could do that with a little warm up… ;-) I’m just a lowly B class scrub though……;-)
