On this special day in Maritime we salute all the women who continue navigate in these uncharted waters even though many times they sail against. (In 2021, women accounted for less than 2% of the global seafaring workforce, but by 2050 this could grow to 25%, according to the Global Maritime Trends 2050 Report.) We also believe that women play a crucial role in shaping the future of maritime safety measures in maritime by bringing diverse perspectives, problem solving skills, and attention to detail. We join the celebrations of all Women in Maritime as per the International Maritime Organization theme for 2024 "Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety" . . . #18May #IMO #womeninmaritimeindustry⚓️ #womeninshipping #safetyatsea #internationaldayforwomeninmaritime

Tomorrow, 18th May, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) celebrates the International Day for Women in Maritime with the theme, ‘Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety’. This day acknowledges the indispensable contributions women make to the maritime industry.🎉 IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez highlights that the maritime sector offers a multitude of prospects for women. Despite this, the industry remains largely male-dominated, with women comprising just 2% of seafarers and 29% of the overall maritime workforce. We believe a diverse and inclusive workforce creates a dynamic and optimal working environment that enriches our thinking, which is reflected in our current 51% female workforce. We proudly spotlight the work of our female colleagues and clients in promoting true sustainability within the maritime and renewable energy industries. Here’s to recognising and empowering the incredible women in every aspect of the maritime sector, from seafaring and engineering to law, communications, logistics, and beyond! 🌟⚓ #WomenInMaritime #IMOWomensDay #Maritime #WomenInShipping

Antipollution SA participates in the celebration of #Women_in_Maritime with International Maritime Organization. Under this year's theme "Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety", IMO is celebrating the Day (18 May) with several events and actions. Today, #women represent only 1.2% percent of the global seafarer #workforce as per the BIMCO/ICS 2021 Seafarer Workforce Report. This represents a #positive trend in gender #balance, with the report estimating 24,059 women serving as seafarers, which is a 45.8% #increase compared with the 2015 report. Within this historically male dominated #industry, IMO has been making a concerted #effort to help the industry move forward and #support #women to achieve a #representation that is in keeping with twenty-first century expectations. Women make up just 2% of seafarers and less than 30% of the maritime workforce, according to 2021 research conducted by the IMO and the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA). The demand is for a greater number of women to venture out on the seas to navigate, invent, and influence the direction of the marine industry. As of 18 May, International Day for Women in Maritime, allows us to go more into this important query. International Maritime Organization In celebration of International Day for Women in Maritime 2024, I am delighted to highlight the remarkable ongoing efforts of the National Department of Transport and the South African International Maritime Institute (SAIMI) through funding opportunities and educational programs about maritime sector. I firmly believe that as part of improvement process, these adequate funding opportunities are some of the strategies implemented to promote maritime industry development and sustainability. 2024’s theme, “Safe Horizons: Women Shaping the Future of Maritime Safety,” flawlessly illustrates SDG 9, "Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure," which emphasises the light bulb moment for safe maritime environments. 8 months ago, I attended “Imbokodo In Maritime” conference, hosted by SAIMI. NB. Imbokodo - means rock, originally from “Wathint’abafazi wathint’imbokodo” which basically means “You strike women, you strike a rock, you will be crushed! You should be careful!” It was an interesting and insightful moment to watch South African women's creativity meld with national technological challenges within the maritime sector. As a Logistics and Maritime Studies graduate in South Africa, I have been disenchanted with the safety and security development measures for women in the maritime sector. I liked how women in that conference left no stone unturned, from how the success of technologies in the maritime industry would provide safety and security in the ports, eliminating piracy and illegal bunkering, to unpacking on approaches on how to make the maritime industry safer especially for women. Advocating for gender equality and all 👌 #WomenInMaritime #SupplyChain #SAIMI #Shipping_Logistics #IMO #MaritimeTransportation ✌️

It's "International day for women in Maritime" and I can't be thankful enough to be a part of this dynamic industry. The maritime industry has seen a gradual but steady increase in the number of women taking on the role of ship brokers and commercial managers. Women in this field have demonstrated exceptional negotiation skills, attention to detail, and an ability to build strong relationships with clients and industry stakeholders. Despite being traditionally a male bastion commercial shipping has been very encouraging and inclusive for the hard workers. So women are not just surviving but thriving in the maritime industry. Their success is a testament to their resilience, expertise, and the growing support for gender diversity in the workforce. Yes challenges are there but then women face challenges in other industries also. The future looks promising for women ship brokers and commercial shipping professionals as the industry continues to evolve and recognize the value of a diverse workforce. With increased support and equal opportunities, women will continue to thrive and play a crucial role in shaping the future of maritime trade and commerce. Cheers to all the fellow and aspiring women in industry!! #shipping #shipbroking #maritime #wista #womenshipbroker
