Change & Transformation’s Post

It's time for Oliver Macks yearly roundup! It will be hard for anything to beat the highlight of bringing Norman more regularly into the office! With Laura taking the bold step into a new career at the civil service in August, we had to have Norman in the office more often. Although Laura is still supporting us, her move also meant we had space for a Finance Assistant, and Henry (Mack!) joined the team – a huge highlight 🎊. The variety of our work means we are constantly challenged, and personally, I learn so much as we go. Our longest-standing client, Good Growth , invited us back to spend time with their senior leadership team in Birmingham, and I loved how they are so open and friendly in a challenging and ambitious environment 💡. We’ve spent hours and days with Local Authorities - Westmorland and Furness Council, Durham County Council , South Tyneside Council and Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and, more recently, were invited to support the NHS Leadership Academy 💙. We’ve covered topics as diverse as vision, leadership, delegation, change, team development, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health, Social Care, Early Intervention, and had the chance to try our hand at small business support. This last one was a real challenge and so enjoyable – we hope to do more in the New Year! Across the course of the year, it isn’t the specific clients that are the highlights but the invitation to be part of their work for a brief time. Each challenging conversation, relationship-building session, systems mapping exercise, and action plan is a highlight for me 🌟. In the office, we didn’t just have the change of Norman becoming a team member, but we had to cope with Bianca leaving! She had a good excuse (baby😊), and welcoming Anna and Kaia (baby Bianca) to the team made it easier. Towards the end of the year, it was brilliant to join up with Alliance Manchester Business School again and support their leadership development work for WCC in Shanghai 🌏. Then, I returned to our second-longest partnership with CPI. They are such an incredible organisation, and I never cease to be amazed by the breadth and complexity of their innovation work. The most recent, of course, is the partnership they developed with the Darlington Economic Campus, where they asked us to design and deliver a strategic leadership programme. The final hoorah was with the Durham Digital Services team, who took the bold step of holding themselves accountable and asking us back to check their progress. It makes it all worthwhile to see people taking their transformation work so seriously 🙌. A big thanks to all our clients, and especially our coaching clients, who really put their trust in us for challenge and support.
