There's been some negative and, at times, unethical or outright hateful hype surrounding the announcement of BK as the new CEO of Cerence Inc. As the comments are disabled on the original post, I just wanted to share my thoughts here. BK wasn't among the best Intel's CEOs, but he definitely wasn't the worst. From my own limited interactions with him during his time as COO, I found him to be professional and genuinely committed to Intel’s success, though I think back in 2013 Intel Corporation Board made a mistake by not appointing Rene James as the CEO and promoted BK to the top role instead. Those who know me well, know I was always critical of BK and his role at Intel at those years. When BK left Intel, there was a great deal of speculation, but most who indulged in the juicy rumours obviously didn’t and couldn't have the whole picture. What is clear is that there was an error of judgement, and he faced serious consequences for it. Now, six years later, I ask those who continue to chew on and mock at BK or Cerence: have you never made a mistake that you later regretted? Are you the same person today that you were in 2018? Surely, we all know someone who has learned from their past, grown, and moved forward. Cerence clearly conducted a thorough process in appointing BK as CEO. To suggest otherwise would be to underestimate their diligence. So perhaps we should extend the same grace we would hope for ourselves in difficult situations and give BK the opportunity to prove his worth in this new role.
