Faced with eroding revenue and over capacity, many EMS in Johor Bahru, Malaysia are cutting cost. Some planned, some ad-hoc and some frantically trying to do both. Many fail to see above and beyond the problem. Cutting cost is not merely as simple as cutting headcounts and then run to the ownership to present you have met your KPis. When you cut down the number of core people you have, you are actually cutting down your talents pool, losing the essential tribal knowledge within the organization and reducing your competitive capability. Cutting head count indiscriminately is a short terms gain that makes you look like a hero for a while. Because when the business recover, and they do, you no longer have the talents pool and the capability to fight back. Meaningful cost cutting is about reducing expenses and containing the overhead and retain your core talents and human resources for a long terms survival. When you cut people to pay less so that you can survive another day, you have lost sight of your business direction, because when you do so, you get monkey left to do the job. 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒐𝒑𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒆 𝒂𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝑪𝑳𝑴𝑻? In a recent interview with The Edge Malaysia, Choon Siang Tan, CEO of the manager of CapitaLand Malaysia REIT (#CLMT), shared insights about the Trust’s strategic pivot towards industrial and logistics assets to diversify its income streams and enhance the resilience of its portfolio. Malaysia has emerged as a favourable China-plus-one destination as businesses diversify their supply chain activities. This is amid an anticipated increase in industrial activities, particularly in Penang and Johor. The upcoming Johor Bahru-Singapore Transit System Link and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone are expected to further stimulate industrial activities in Johor. CLMT currently owns two logistics assets, namely Valdor Logistics Hub in Penang and the Glenmarie Distribution Centre in Selangor. It also expects to complete its acquisition of three factories located at the Nusajaya Tech Park in Iskandar Malaysia, Johor, by 4Q this year. On the retail front, CLMT has seen improvements in the performance of its Klang Valley malls through its proactive asset management and leasing efforts. The team has actively repositioned 3 Damansara into a community hub to better serve the needs of the surrounding neighbourhood. Johor Port: a wonderful visit to neighbour across town Ikmal Danuri and I visited Johor Port FMD, meeting with Ir. Ln.Ts. Mohd Khairul Azizat Johari PMP and team. It's a newly setup team trying to tackle legacy issues in FM and infra. I applauded the effort since the historical port itself is way older than me and the FMD team member! The complexity of managing the legacy data itself posed a unique challenge. Tackling any legacy issue head-on, but with a different set of thinking and strategy from what was previously done, is always the start of a successful journey. I remember once assigned to an old facility to revamp the operation in its entirety. Some of the things we did to ensure we had high chances of success were: 1) If we are the new 'blood' and come as a change agent, people have high expectations for us to fail (hate us/scepticism). Therefore, stakeholder engagement is crucial. 2) To provide and explain a clear roadmap and milestones of achievement. 3) Expect and accept things that are not in the correct order; there will be technical debts, and people in the past have tried their best. 4) Ensure resources and budgets are managed effectively and efficiently. 5) Acknowledge cultural, generational, age, and communication gaps and address them tactfully. If you are not great at communicating, assign the kindest/best person in your team to do it. Thank you for being a great host, Ir. Azizat and team! #johorport #infinitywave #digitaltransformation #facilitiesmanagement

A Brief of A Journey on Assurance Recently, I have been studying how companies incorporate the concept of "Assurance" into their business and operational processes. Traditionally, I've viewed this term as a boring concept. As I began to learn its Impacts on business, it fascinated me to see how this term can inspire feelings of safety, calmness, and certainty. It has been an important discovery. At PT. TÜV NORD Indonesia, I'm learning from my experienced colleagues. They are experts in the field of Testing, Inspection, and Certification. This learning encounter has given me a deeper understanding of how a company operates holistically and led to the concept of compliance. It is not just about following rules. It also involves considering all aspects of the company's operations and business. Thus, What I find exciting is that creativity can still thrive and flourish inside #compliance. This journey has just begun, and I am eager to see what lies ahead. It's a thrilling ride! Destination: #Sustainability Tabik, GH

A Guide for Business on Controlled Sales of Assets Excited to share some transformations I have facilitated in the past : 1️⃣ Sole Proprietorship to Sdn Bhd Helped "XXX," a popular JB shop, transition into a private limited company. This move boosts credibility, attracts investment, and minimizes personal liability, setting them up for greater success. 2️⃣ Partnership to Sdn Bhd Guided "YYY Partner," a partnership in Johor Bahru specializing in trading of building material, in restructuring into an Sdn Bhd. This strategic shift enhances their ability to secure capital and streamlines operations, propelling them towards a brighter future. 3️⃣ Restructuring a Group Assisted the ZZZ family in streamlining their diverse business holdings by transferring assets into a newly formed Sdn Bhd. "ZZZ Holdings Sdn Bhd" now benefits from improved operational efficiency and optimized tax strategies. Each transformation underscores the power of strategic planning and expert guidance in adapting to business growth and complexity.
