💡 Net zero will never be reached without a comprehensive nature strategy. At the recent Regenerative Agriculture Summit Series in Amsterdam, 🔑 Key takeaways from Alain Vidal (Quantis) - The biggest hotspot in regenerative agriculture isn't just about no-till practices or cover crops— it's the efficiency of fertilizer use. - Improving fertilizer efficiency leads directly to cost savings and lower emissions. - Fertilizer management holds the key to unlocking major cost savings and emissions reductions. I liked the quote from Stéphane Hallaire (Reforest'Action) reminding that 🌳 Climate and biodiversity must be distinguished—but never decoupled. The path forward? Combining practices to decrease carbon emissions while enhancing biodiversity. Let’s keep pushing for solutions that benefit nature, farmers, and the planet. 🌱💪 #RegenerativeAgriculture #ClimateAction #NetZero #Biodiversity #Sustainability #EU #Agroecology

🌿 Soil Carbon Sequestration: A Vital Tool for Sustainable Agriculture 🌍 In the face of climate change, soil carbon sequestration has emerged as a key strategy for creating resilient and sustainable farming practices. 🌾 By capturing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in the soil, this process not only mitigates climate impacts but also significantly improves soil health, biodiversity, and water retention. Enhanced soil organic carbon (SOC) leads to more fertile land, better crop yields, and reduced dependence on synthetic inputs — crucial factors for long-term agricultural productivity. Moreover, carbon-rich soils offer economic opportunities for farmers to participate in carbon markets and insetting initiatives, driving both profitability and environmental benefits. This approach fosters collaboration across the agricultural sector, aligning farmers, policymakers, and communities toward a greener, more sustainable future. 🌱✨ Let’s continue pushing forward innovative solutions like soil carbon sequestration to ensure a thriving agricultural ecosystem for generations to come. 🌍 The World Economic Forum (WEF) estimates that if just 40% of the world's cropland used #regenerativeagriculture practices, it could prevent about 600 million tons of carbon emissions annually. Regenerative agriculture isn't just another farming method; it's a holistic approach to land management that prioritises the health of the soil, biodiversity and farmers' yields. Healthy soil is teeming with life – microbes, fungi, and earthworms – all working together to create a fertile ecosystem. Earthly partners with Klim, a leading #agritech company, that champions regenerative agriculture. Klim empowers farmers through technical assistance, financial support and verification of regenerative practices. This translates to real-world benefits: 💚 #Carbon sequestration: Klim's work helps store carbon in the soil, a powerful tool in combating climate change. 💚 Farmer livelihoods: Klim's support allows farmers to adopt #sustainable practices that improve their long-term profitability and resilience. 💚 Environmental health: Regenerative agriculture contributes to a healthier planet with increased #biodiversity and improved soil health. ORTA believes that regenerative cotton is the modern and most pragmatic way to help stop climate change before it’s too late. It is a blue-sky solution made viable and accessible through regenerative agriculture, and we are getting behind it to help this movement grow! Regenerative agriculture calls for a holistic systems approach that puts humans and ecosystems at its core taking soil health, biodiversity, carbon sequestration and social justice into consideration. Regenerative agriculture focuses on working with nature, limiting costly artificial inputs and mimicking natural ecosystems within an agricultural setting. However, there are some key principles which are consistent no matter where in the world it is being implemented: crop rotation, cover crops, minimum or no tilling, minimizing external inputs, composting, animal integration. Regenerative methods improve biodiversity, contribute to water availability and quality, achieve healthy soils, support climate resilience, and improve livelihoods. Healthy soil helps draw carbon back in the ground; hence regenerative agriculture has the potential to change the way we grow cotton fiber and restore the health of our soil and climate. #Orta #OrtaBlu #OrtaAnadolu #Denim #Jeans #GenR #regenerativecotton

Regenerative AgricultureWe are living through climate and nature crises. The depletion of natural assets and soil health is hurting our farmers, endangering the productivity and resilience of our lands. Agriculture itself is the single largest driver of global biodiversity loss1, and the global environmental, health, and socioeconomic costs associat- ed with today’s food and land use system total nearly $12 trillion per year.2 Yet we have proven agricultural systems that can help mitigate this damage and restore ecosys- tems. Regenerative agriculture is not a new concept, but its connection to fighting biodiversity loss and the climate crisis is now more important than ever. https://lnkd.in/grDxCg4u

What if we could use existing carbon program data to quantify the ways regenerative practices improve soil health, biodiversity, and water usage? This is the goal; farmers need data-backed evidence that changing their farming practices will help improve their livelihoods and the environment. And improving both is necessary. Project Enhanced S3 (link below) was announced just two weeks ago and is an expansion of our carbon sequestration and emission reduction programs for agri-food businesses. One of the best and most valuable activities we can engage in is to stand astride immense potential value for farmers in supporting their productivity and sustainability, and for companies as they look to move closer to their science-based sustainability targets. https://lnkd.in/g5wSNUpA #RegenerativeAgriculture #AgInnovation
