Facing the future through entrepreneurship theory: A prospective inquiry framework Key Findings: 1. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲: The research proposes a new approach to entrepreneurship theory that connects academic research with real-world entrepreneurial activities. 2. 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝘆: This approach focuses on imagining and creating future possibilities rather than just explaining the present. 3. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: It involves creating meaningful spaces for collaboration, developing theories to guide future actions, and reflecting on the impact of these theories. [Call for papers] The International Small Business Journal invites paper submissions on "Marginalisation and #Entrepreneurship: Unpacking the Nuanced Roles of Sociocultural Outsidership in New Venture Development" by May 13. This special issue aims to stimulate conversations on how various forms of societal marginalisation or "outsider status" influence entrepreneurship, yielding new theories, challenging existing ones, and providing novel empirical insights. In particular, while much has been written on poverty and economic or financial marginalisation in entrepreneurship, we seek to probe non-economic facets of outsidership – objective or subjective – such as social, cultural, class, status, or psychological factors that drive entrepreneurial actors to experience the venture development process differently from the mainstream. Our call to action invites conceptual, quantitative, and qualitative research that tackles the umbrella research question: how, why, when, and to what extent does sociocultural marginalisation influence entrepreneurship? Guest editors are Robert Pidduck (王睿诚), Eric Liguori, Susana Correia Santos, Alex Newman, and Reginald Tucker. The deadline for submission of papers is May 13, 2024. The journal submission site will be open for submissions from April 29, 2024. The Special Issue is scheduled to be published in November 2025.

📣 delighted to share #newarticle #openaccess The social and environmental impact of entrepreneurship: a review and future research agenda, authored with Giorgia Scartozzi, Silvia Delladio, Francesco Rosati, Argyro (Iro) Nikiforou and just published in Review of Managerial Science (IF 7.8) Our study seeks to systematize and integrate the scientific knowledge about the #social and #environmental #impact of #entrepreneurship. It does so by performing a #bibliometric analysis and a #systematic literature #review of 172 journal articles. The study provides an overview of the current #knowledge on the topic by identifying four thematic clusters: “#socialentrepreneurship for societal impact”, “entrepreneurship for #sustainabledevelopment”, “female entrepreneurship for institutional change”, and “entrepreneurship for inclusive regional development”. It further reveals that entrepreneurship literature predominantly focuses on #socialimpact, with less emphasis on environmental impact, and it stresses the need for future research to avoid working in silos. In particular, it suggests that the boundaries between the different impact domains are elusive and that the interlinkages between social, environmental, and economic impact should be further explored. Finally, it proposes that further studies need to increase clarity in the conceptualization and operationalization of impact in entrepreneurship research, as well as to pay more attention to the negative impact of entrepreneurship. The chapter, coauthored with Kaarina Vieru and Henri Hakala, looks at the role of context in sustainable entrepreneurship and offers insights that are valuable for both researchers and entrepreneurs working in this space. 🔍 Key Highlights 🔍 ✅ Review of prominent contextual factors that affect sustainable ventures. ✅ Future research roadmap, including digital–physical space interactions, spatial distribution, geographic inclusivity, temporal constructs and processes, historical narratives, collective memories, and critical events. ✅ Practical insights to help entrepreneurs better understand the factors influencing their ventures and map their positioning in relation to their most salient factors.
