Understanding BIM’s Levels of Development (LOD) BIM is vast and so is its different stages —each step has process and advantages that ensures accuracy and efficiency at every stage. Each Level of Development (LOD) helps the main stakeholders—designers, engineers, contractors, and owners—understanding the concepts and delivering projects that are perfect. The stages comprise are - • LOD 100: The initial concept is built here, helping teams visualize the overall mass and scope. • LOD 200: Elements are put into shape with approximate geometry in LOD 200 making it perfect for early planning and collaboration. • LOD 300: Models with specific details along with precise geometry is considered here. This speeds up the communication between teams. • LOD 400: Construction-level details are brewed in this stage to bring clarity in fabrication, making sure all components falls in place. • LOD 500: The final as-built modelling is done here, capturing every inch of reality for facility management and future maintenance.
