🌟 Meet our Chartered Manager of the Week: Samantha Canham CMgr FCMI 🌟 Sam was seconded to the role of senior continuous improvement manager at Currys plc earlier this year. She credits becoming a Chartered Manager with helping her to take the step up. “I genuinely don’t think I would have got the job had I not become a Chartered Manager, because my people skills wouldn’t have been there,” she says. Her journey with CMI began after she encountered its resources through colleagues. This led her to carry out assessments of her communication style. She realised that she didn’t have much empathy. Sam did not want that to be the case; she wanted to be approachable and to help her team grow and develop. She started looking at routes to change her management style. She achieved Chartered Manager status almost two years ago and rates the tools it has given her as “fantastic”. It had a big impact on her management style; it has helped her relax a little and relinquish some control to her team members when appropriate. “With things like Chartered Manager status, it’s all about the accreditation. But unless you take the material away and actually start to live it, there’s no point in those post-nominals. The last blog of the 22nd ANLP My Transformational Journey with ANLP: Intentionality and Leadership by Example By Phyllis Addo If you ever have the privilege of conversing with an ANLP alumnus, you're bound to hear a chorus of terms that captures the essence of the program: mindset shift, positivity, abundance mentality, reflection, finding oneself, self-care, locus of control, stepping out of one's comfort zone, 360-degree leadership, commitment, responsibility, purpose, leadership embedding techniques, goals, time management, effort, dedication, systems thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, networking, sharing, celebrating wins, advocacy, lobbying, and much more. For me, one word stands out among the rest: INTENTIONALITY. From the moment I was accepted into the program, the ANLP organizers have consistently impressed me with their dedication, effort, and commitment. It's evident that they are a collective of individuals driven by a shared vision—to nurture nutrition leaders across Africa—and are deeply passionate and focused on achieving this goal. In every aspect of the program, from the schedule to the content to the grouping, it is clear that the programme was carefully planned to ensure that the knowledge and skills we acquire are ingrained within us. Witnessing their leadership by example has inspired me to be more intentional about my personal growth and development as a leader. As I strive to emulate their leadership by example and embrace intentional growth in my own journey, I am confident that the seeds of leadership sown by ANLP will continue to flourish and make a lasting impact on the continent. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the entire ANLP team for their tireless dedication and passion. The impact you are making on the continent is immeasurable. In my local Ghanaian dialect, a proverb says, "Ahwenepa nkasa," which directly translates to "good beads do not make noise." This perfectly describes ANLP—a program that quietly but profoundly transforms individuals into exceptional leaders. In my view, the ANLP program stands out as one of the top-tier leadership programs in Africa. The legacy being built by ANLP is paving the way for a brighter future where the African dream will be realized. Long live ANLP!

As I look back on this past year, I can't help but feel incredibly proud. We (The Leadership & Professional team at the ASC/AIS) have delivered 11 transformative Professional Skills programs in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and the Gold Coast, bringing together some extraordinary individuals from across the national sporting ecosystem. Just yesterday, we wrapped up our final Professional Skills program for this financial year on the Gold Coast with a brilliant cohort in Stakeholder Management, co-delivering with the exceptional Mary-Claire McDonald The Professional Skills suite this year has included Developing Others, Strategy Design and Execution, Psychological Safety, Optimising Collaboration for Performance, and Stakeholder Management. What I've learned through this journey is that the real power lies in the room – when people from different sports and roles come together, curiosity and diversity spark growth. It’s been amazing to see participants realise they are not alone in their challenges and triumphs, and even more so to witness their ah-ha moments. I’m proud to say we’ve filled over 180 participant spots across the country, with each program featuring at least a two-day face-to-face component, which has been critical to the programs’ success. With applied learning and peer coaching, we've helped reinforce the learnings and integrate them into everyday lives, and had some fun along the way. A huge shout-out to my incredible teammates in the Leadership & Professional team, especially Liam Gooley who is a mastermind behind some of the development of these programs and the collaborative teams across the ASC/AIS. This work wouldn't be so successful without them.
