I recently attended an incredibly insightful talk on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) by Dr. Amar Daud Iskandar Abdullah, a renowned neuroscientist and Senior Lecturer at Sunway University. The session was both eye-opening and thought-provoking, offering a deep dive into the prevalence, impact, and ongoing research surrounding TBI. One of the most striking points was how TBI remains a leading cause of disability and death globally, particularly among young adults. In Malaysia, the picture is sobering—road traffic accidents are the primary culprit, making TBI one of the top reasons for ICU admissions. The discussion also shed light on the significant socioeconomic burden this condition places on individuals, families, and healthcare systems. What stood out most to me was Dr. Amar’s explanation of the biological aftermath of TBI. He walked us through the complex cascade of events in the brain, including neuroinflammation, which can exacerbate damage and impair recovery. His work on neuroprotective compounds to slow neural degeneration is genuinely inspiring and underscores the vital role of research in shaping better outcomes for patients. This session left me reflecting on the need for more awareness, especially in countries like Malaysia, where TBI data is still underreported. Improved road safety measures and more robust research efforts could make a world of difference. It’s always encouraging to see passionate researchers like Dr. Amar pushing boundaries to address these challenges. This talk wasn’t just a lecture—it was a reminder of the power of science to tackle some of our most pressing healthcare issues. #TraumaticBrainInjury #Neuroscience #AcademicReflections #HealthcareInnovation #SunwayUniversity

Did you know our brains don't just store memories as one static snapshot? Researchers have found that the hippocampus keeps multiple copies of a single memory, each in different neuron groups that evolve at different stages. These memory copies vary in how they persist and adapt, affecting how we recall or modify memories. This groundbreaking discovery could open doors to new treatments for memory-related disorders! https://lnkd.in/eUez_-JX Stay tuned as we learn more about how our amazing brains work! #MemoryScience #BrainResearch #Neuroscience #Hippocampus #MemoryDiscovery
