Are we going to keep calling Black Friday, Black Friday? Fun fact: this name came to be back in the 1960's because the major, post-Thanksgiving sales day in the US was such a hit it was the day that retailers profits went from 'in the red' to 'in the black'. At some point, there was an attempt to change the name to "Big Friday" but it didn't really stick. Now, in 2024, brands are launching their 'Black Friday' sales as early as the final weekend of October. My inbox and ad feeds are full of BFCM launches. So, is it still Black Friday, when it's being dragged out longer and longer every year? Is it Black November now? Does this major sales event need a full rebrand? What are your thoughts? Another fast fact: in NZ and AU, Black Friday weekend has overtaken Boxing Day Sales in recent years!

Each year it seems that Black Friday sales are starting earlier and earlier... And it's becoming a bit of a landmine field for brands to navigate. Start your sale too early and campaigns may fizzle out too before the big dance... Shoot too late and your competitors could get the upper hand and steal your potential buyers before you go to market! However, one thing is clear. You NEED a plan and you need to plan early. Great. You’re going to release it first to your personal brand audience and your premium clients first. And here’s the twist; you’ll make sure everyone knows about it that you’re releasing to your personal brand audience first. This is what will happen if you do that; 1. Those who don’t follow your personal brand will feel a little bit left out and they will follow now. 2. Your personal brand audience will know you value them like premium clients and so will find it easy to pay for premium prices if you are ever to market premium products to them.
