How We Build Matters!!

Trailblazers like O.W. Gurley and Madam C.J. Walker epitomized enterprise with their resourcefulness and relentless drive, laying the foundation for generations of Black entrepreneurs. Throughout this month, NABA Inc. has explored the pivotal role of education, earnings, and entrepreneurship in building Black wealth. Today, we celebrate the power of enterprise. Often described as enterprising, successful Black entrepreneurs not only achieve financial success but also uplift communities and inspire innovation against all odds. NABA members embody this enterprising spirit, too. Whether through participating in educational programs like CPA Bound and ACAP, networking at events like the National Convention & Expo, or fostering connections with associations like the Diverse Organization of Firms, you honor our ancestors' sacrifices. As we bid farewell to Black History Month, let us reflect on the legacy of those who paved the way and recommit ourselves to their vision. Though the racial wealth gap persists, our resolve to bridge it grows stronger. We are four steps closer, NABA Nation. Happy Black History Month!

As we conclude Black History Month and recognize the beginning of historic contributions of women’s accomplishments across the nation, we highlight the first Black female associate directors at NIFA. Every February, the nation recognizes Black History Month to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions and achievements of the Black and African American community. Celebrating American diversity creates a sense of compassion which helps connect people. Diversity across the organization, including in leadership roles, is fundamental at BARDA and emphasized through the workforce initiatives laid out in our Strategic Plan. We continue to grow relationships with faculty and graduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic-serving institutions, women’s colleges, and tribal colleges and universities (TCUs) so that highly qualified graduates and post-doctoral scholars from these institutions are aware of career opportunities at BARDA. Public health emergencies often have disproportionate impacts on underserved and at-risk populations. We invite private sector and academic scientists with diverse perspectives to join us in pursuing accessible MCMs across the entire population and in a range of settings. IF YOU ARE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR ORGANISATION'S PLANS FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH THIS IS FOR YOU! The 'Soca Sign' did the rounds and people loved it. So many people commented on the way we broke down one small part of carnival's origins and history but now we are here to bring even more to the table! This 3-part seminar series is a reboot and evolution of something we did a few years ago. Last time we had 50 teachers go through the education series for classrooms and about 35 people join to bring the good stuff to their organisations. 'Using Black British History to Transform your organisation's approach to EDI' is an opportunity to bring meaning, application and LEGACY to Black History month this year. The 3 sessions will cover: --> The Windrush Generation’s Influence and Impact on the UK’s Economic Development. --> How the Notting Hill Carnival became one of Europe’s greatest examples of resistance and activism. --> Black faces in political places: The journey for the UK’s first black MPs to get elected. This Black History Month, let's acknowledge the power of businesses to uplift communities, promote diversity, and drive positive change. Hey y’all— if you attended a PWI or as I learned most recently it is now being referred to as a HWI (Historically White Institution) and you were either a part of the Black Student Union or your school (undergrad or graduate) offered a Black Grad Ceremony please chime and let me know: 1. Your perspective on being able to take part in a separate ceremony for Black graduates in addition to the school wide commencement; 2. If you know of any private HWI/PWI’s in the DC area that have Black graduate ceremonies. If you do not identify as Black would love to learn more on your perspective as well if HWI’s should have Black graduate ceremonies.
