Rolling up your long sleeves was forbidden in my high school. “You look like a mechanic! We’re training you to be lawyers and doctors!”, my teachers would scold. The message was clear. Our parents and teachers wanted us to aim for white collared jobs. Not carpentry, not mechanics. So please how did introductory technology (basic tech) sneak its way into our academic curriculum???! Don’t let the word “tech” in the title deceive you. IT IS AN IMPOSTER!!!!! Basic tech weighed heavily on crafts! This subject had me memorizing the names of the cedars of Lebanon! The knowledge was shoved down my throat like I was being prepared to be banished into the evil forest so I could survive by identifying the types of tree woods and leaves. I can’t believe that after learning all the types of saws, pliers, and hammers; I’m not in a workshop somewhere draped in overalls. To make matters worse, it seems basic tech teachers often took flogging lessons from the devil to qualify to teach the subject😭 Or could the flogging prowess have come from their ability to identify the most painful canes? Afterall they spent all their youth studying trees, wood, and other appliances full of hazards. Well, in their defence, I see a lot of people living off DIYs (Do-it-yourself) these days. I better lower my volume and wait till I’m glowing in my summer home wear someday. Maybe I could help pass the hammer and nails to the love of my life as he builds me and my mini-me a tree house. Did your school offer introductory technology? If not, what subject did you think was the most unecessary? #tss2.0 #storytelling #creativity

You see that flogging prowess it qualifies them to be an intro tech teacher. My intro tech teacher has just one hand, he was good at flogging

Yes, I did. And it was the synonym of worthless! It was a torture. You didn't make mention of all the technical drawings we made using drawing boards, papers and so on. My Intro tech teacher then would mark you down for the slightest mistake. "Ensure your arc is precise, your bisection accurate, and your tangent flawless!" 😩 Carrying all the drawing instruments to school was no easy task either.
