A Sunshine Coast woman is one of the first people to be sentenced under new Queensland legislation mandating the reporting of child sexual abuse. The 50-year-old woman, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘failure to report’ belief of a child sexual offence. Maroochydore Magistrates Court heard the woman obtained information in September or October last year leading to a reasonable belief that her husband had sexually abused their eight-year-old daughter multiple times. The court heard the 41-year-old man was arrested in April as a result of another party making a complaint to police. In Queensland it is an offence for an adult not to inform police as soon as reasonably practicable if they believe a child sexual offence is being or has been committed by another adult. Please read this latest story via link below to read yet another example of how victim care and victim rights are always the last consideration, just how our systems are broken, and how victims are totally powerless to do anything at all about it. In truth victims have no rights. Seen far too often as a ‘useful commodity’, needed at the start of the process and then to give evidence in court, but otherwise an often in between just a ‘nuisance’. Then they are expected to just tolerate whatever is dealt out in the courtroom, often over many weeks as offenders and their families treat them like this. The offenders and their families often get away with this repeatedly. I have witnessed some horrific examples of this in numerous cases I spent months in court with, supporting families in murder trials. Makes my blood boil every time! https://lnkd.in/eyh2Pe2W Thankyou Charlie Peters and GB News for being the only msm channel to continue to highlight these injustices, whilst the rest of the msm continue to look away. The thing to remember is that behind each of these ‘stories’ lies a victim whose life have been destroyed, who may have fought for 20 years to find some sort of justice. And even after all that, they are yet again powerless in the face of such abuse and system failures.

This is why everyone needs to understand the high risk factors in #stalking cases & be able to safely guide a #victim. Training available https://lnkd.in/euQkhi-v #Housing - when is #ASB actually #stalking? #Police - when is #harassment or miscommunications actually #stalking? #socialservices - when does #separation have #stalking within it? #Health when is a patient/colleague presenting with #anxiety, #depression because they are being #stalked Enough is enough… we shouldn’t learn through #murder but through training
Horrendous. Yet another ex-partner #stalking case that escalated into serious violence. Another offender who was already on bail... This brave woman was 37 weeks pregnant. He repeatedly stabbed her with an 8 inch knife. When someone cannot stop thinking about their ex; is jealous and behaving obsessively; following; messaging; making threats - everyone needs to recognise the risks and take it seriously. Stalking is horrendous in it's own right but it's a massive red flag that can signify future violence. We need to recognise stalking as an opportunity for the criminal justice system to intervene and protect victims before things get even worse. #VAWG #Stalking #fixation #obsession

PA Man Sentenced to 60+ Years for Serial Domestic Violence In April 2024, a Greene County court sentenced a Harrisburg man to 60 to 120 years in prison for domestic violence. The man was found guilty of several felonies and misdemeanors, including aggravated assault, strangulation, and involuntary [s_xual] intercourse. The Attorney General's office prosecuted the case and vigorously sought steep penalties because the man was a repeat offender. Attorney General Michelle Henry emphasized the importance of the lengthy prison sentence and the lifelong requirement to register as a sex offender to prevent further offenses. If you have been accused of repeated (or “serial”) domestic violence charges in PA, the penalties become steeper and more burdensome. Because of the potential consequences, you should seek an experienced domestic violence lawyer immediately. The LLF Law Firm has years of experience handling domestic violence allegations in PA. Domestic Violence in PA In the State of Pennsylvania, there is no specific crime designated as domestic violence. Rather, domestic violence is defined by the relationship of the defendant to the alleged victim. Typically, this is a spouse, ex-spouse, a child, a roommate, a prior significant other, or other family member. Domestic violence charges arise out of allegations of stalking, harassment, assault, child abuse, [s_xual] assault, and other crimes. Whether a domestic violence charge is a felony or misdemeanor and to what... https://lnkd.in/e2BpGGUe

How many child sexual abuse and assault reports result in prosecution? In some instances, non-disclosure is due to the experience being considered not serious enough to report (41%) or children did not perceive the incident as child sexual abuse. Less than 1 in 5 reported cases of child sexual abuse & assault went forward to prosecution. About half of these cases resulted in a conviction or guilty pleas. Reasons why cases are not opened or investigated further: Case involved two consenting minors, perpetrator was unknown or too young, parents were unsupportive or protective of their children, parents defended perpetrating partner instead of their child, case was viewed to be in the interest of the child victims and/or their families.

#MondayMusings #feminist Mondays Here’s a not-so-fun fact for you, more than 70 per cent of men who killed their current or past female partners had at least two interactions with police, the legal system or child protection before the killings. Ten years worth of analysing Judges’ comments in sentencing men for violent deaths of an intimate partner also showed nearly 1 in 5 were on bail or parole. The same were on protection orders at the time of the crime, and 37% of the women killed had recorded prior breaches of safety orders. What does this suggest and what can we learn? That the perpetrators have had many interactions with law enforcement and hence were preventable deaths. Read more - https://lnkd.in/gb3HaJvq

Yes, when not providing the solution it indicates the involvement or coverup of some form of complicity based on the “cultural environment”. Time for it to end and for those who have the problem to be held accountable.
John Manly recently appeared on ABC News Live, condemning the FBI for its ongoing failures in handling child sexual abuse cases, as revealed by a new Inspector General report. Despite reforms promised after the Larry Nassar case, Manly emphasized that children continue to undergo abuse due to inaction. Our firm actively advocates for legislative measures to ensure the FBI prioritizes child protection, calling for immediate and decisive action to fix the FBI's systemic shortcomings. Stay tuned for more updates.

Only 1 in 7 people accused of raping a child will likely even know they were named as a suspect, much less be investigated, charged, prosecuted or convicted. Furthermore, approximately 389 allegations of sexual offences did not proceed to charge; interviewing 33 victim survivors and four support people; and interrogating the police policy has found police were simply not doing enough. From an ACT case study, it confirmed that police rarely charge sexual offences in the ACT because police rarely investigate them. Some of those suspects who weren’t approached had serious violent history of family violence offences, or had previous charges of child sexual abuse and conviction. There were a series of consistent failures in police efforts to undertake “reasonable and appropriate” action, like talking to suspects, gathering evidence such as CCTV footage and sending victim survivors for forensic medical examinations, the report found. A large majority of cases of allegations of child sexual abuse were also not investigated by police when it was known there were family court proceedings pending. As the family court is based in the civil jurisdiction, they simply cannot investigate such allegations and require the independent review from police and child protection. When allegations like this are raised at trial, there is a common belief that where there are no findings of the CSA there must be no unacceptable risk to the child. This isn’t true, and is a massive issue in these types of investigations. Police can investigate at any time and are encouraged to do so as per their OPM. Police can also file a stay on the proceedings in the family court while the investigation is being conducted. In India, how can a common man believe that there is justice equally accessible to all without discrimination when the judiciary becomes a silent spectator of injustice happening right before it? Is it that the concept and meaning of justice is different for different people ? Is it that justice means twisting the law and facts through eloquent lawyers with literary english and getting the desired decision through hefty payments to lawyers and all other stakeholders who participate in the process of justice ? How can such justice be availed by a poor common man ? The concept of justice and access to justice seems like a royal debate and glamourous professionals know the art to derive mileage and exploit the facts, law and situation to their advantage ?

These stories keep popping up on my timeline and when I’ve looked in to the story, I find it incredible the lack of media attention it has received…. This is taken from the National Crime Agency (NCA) website on ‘Operation Stovewood’ in Rotherham. “To date, we have recorded 1367 crimes, arrested 209 individuals and nominated 1080 survivors. 20 people have been convicted of offences identified by Operation Stovewood and we expect that to rise. Those convicted have been handed prison sentences totalling around 250 years.” NOMINATED 1080 SURVIVORS!!!!! It would be so interesting to hear directly from journalists why this story hasn’t received more attention? Eg Why am I having to read about it through LinkedIn rather than understanding the extent of it through mainstream media? Would be interesting for a data analyst to compare the media coverage of this story with some of the many negative stories on the Metropolitan Police just to see the disproportionate media coverage. There’s clearly bias, but why? https://lnkd.in/g-_--uBc
Warning: this story contains details of child sexual abuse A taxi driver who raped two children in Rotherham two decades ago has been given a 13 year prison sentence. Adam Ali was investigated and convicted as part of the NCA's Operation Stovewood, looking at allegations of child sexual abuse in the South Yorkshire town. He was convicted of three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault involving girls aged as young as 12 and 13. Ali, known as Razwan Razaq at the time of his offending, carried out his attacks between 2002 and 2004, using his car to drive vulnerable young girls to various locations where he assaulted them. Operation Stovewood continues, and we are determined to do all we can to protect victims and bring offenders before the courts. Operation Stovewood remains the single biggest investigation of its kind, looking at allegations of abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013. Read the full story ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dhTREBib
