👶🏽Child Respect and Autonomy 👦🏽👧🏽 In raising my children, I’ve always adhered to a simple principle: if I wouldn’t resort to physical force to communicate with an adult, then why would I do so with my own child or any other just to get my point across ? Every child deserves the same level of respect and bodily autonomy as any adult. After all, we’re all human beings deserving of patience, consistency, and mutual learning. Moreover, it’s crucial for adults to recognize the impact of their own unresolved traumas and the necessity to regulate their emotions. Children absorb and mirror the behavior they witness, and when adults struggle to manage their emotions, it inevitably affects the mental health and developmental journey of the children around them. Let’s prioritize creating environments where children feel empowered, respected, and supported in their growth, while also recognizing and addressing the emotional needs of adults. We can foster healthier relationships and contribute to a more compassionate society. #ChildRespect #EmotionalRegulation #ParentingJourney #MentalHealth #SelfDevelopment #CharlotteRuwona #YourPsychBae

🌟 How Do Our Mental Health and Early Childhood Teams Collaborate to Support and Understand Our Children at Vogel? 🌟 At Vogel, our mental health team works closely with our Early Childhood Education (ECE) team to address the diverse needs of our children. As Tamsyn from our mental health team shares: "Part of our training focuses on trauma awareness, teaching essential skills and knowledge about attachment styles and coping mechanisms that our staff need to work effectively with our children. Equally important is fostering self-care and awareness among our staff. We encourage everyone to reflect on their own triggers and past experiences to better support our kiddos. This holistic approach ensures that everyone, from our front desk staff to our development officers, is equipped to handle any situation with empathy and understanding." Our collaboration aims to create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive. By integrating trauma-informed care practices and self-care awareness, we ensure that all staff members, regardless of their role, can contribute positively to the well-being of our children. Together, we build a supportive community for every child and family. 💙 #Vogel #EarlyChildhood #MentalHealth #TraumaInformedCare #SelfCare #CommunitySupport

Are you a Parentified Child? Reflecting on my personal journey as a parentified child, I want to delve deeper into the origins of this role in childhood and how it has shaped my approach to adult relationships. The Parentified Child: A parentified child is someone who takes on adult-like responsibilities and caregiving roles at a young age, often due to a lack of parental support or presence. This can include emotional support, household chores, or even caring for younger siblings. Origin in Childhood: In my own childhood, the absence of consistent emotional support and nurturing from my father led me to step into the role of a parentified child. I found myself taking care of household tasks, offering emotional support to family members, and shouldering responsibilities that were beyond my years. Emotional Burden: One significant aspect of being a parentified child is the emotional burden it carries. From a young age, I internalized a sense of responsibility for the well-being of others, which continued into adulthood. This sometimes led to neglecting my own needs and emotions in favor of caretaking roles. Seeking Balance and Healing: Understanding the origins of the parentified role has been very important in my journey toward healing and self-awareness. Once you know this concept, everything start to make sense in life. I am still learning to balance caregiving tendencies with self-care and prioritizing my own emotional well-being.
