The skills parents value the most for their children, at #2, swimming. 🎩 off to GLL and Better for putting this valuable piece of research together. A 2000-person survey is a good sample size for meaningful results. 👏
We have had lots of media activity on this over the past week as we enter #drowningpreventionweek Many people remember their version of learning to swim at School, some fondly with memories of swimming in PJ's and picking a brick up from the deep end, others not such a great experience due to a fear of water. Thousands of School Chilidren now enjoy and benefit from lessons with us that ensure children learn to love and respect water for life. However Schools are more increasingly unable to provide adequate provision for pupils to achieve National Curriculum requirements. This research shows Parents feel it is still one of the most valuable skills that thier Child can learn. https://lnkd.in/e7GxPpJ2 Let's get this back on track #SwimmingAlliance #funding #betterneverstops

In 1934, Germiston High School Rowing Club (GHSRC) was born, and for 90 years, we've been fostering teamwork, discipline, and passion for rowing. This milestone year, we face an unprecedented challenge. Our primary funding source, school fees, has plummeted to a record low, threatening our very existence. Despite this setback, we're determined to celebrate our 90th year in style. We want to attend the prestigious Boat Race in Port Alfred, a tradition we've maintained since 2013, with only two exceptions. But with our approved budget slashed from R192,000 to R65,000, we're already R12,000 over budget. As a co-ed school, our costs are higher, but we wouldn't trade our inclusive spirit for anything. We've always found a way to make it work, but this year, we need your help. The Ask: We're not just rowing for ourselves; we're rowing for our legacy. We're rowing for the generations of rowers who came before us and those who'll follow. We're rowing to ensure our club reaches its 100th year in 2034, regardless of the school's financial situation. Objectives: 1. Raise funds for Boat 2024 and our 2024/25 rowing session. 2. Cover essential costs, including fuel for coaching and transportation to regattas. 3. Secure our club's future beyond this season. How You Can Help: 1. Donate to our campaign. 2. Share our story with your network. 3. Offer fundraising ideas or expertise. 4. Partner with us to ensure our club's long-term sustainability. Contact: Coach Ricky Rikhotso: (+27) 068-746-8810 Let's Row Together: Join us in celebrating 90 years of Germiston High School Rowing Club's excellence. Your support will help us overcome this challenging period and ensure our club's continued success. https://lnkd.in/dFwyaRSd

I teach my children: Win or lose, try your best. We learn and grow from both. But never, ever... Cheat. As many of you will know, my children play tennis and enter into tournaments. Unfortunately, the prevalence of cheating and gamesmanship among under 11 players during competitions is concerning. Instances of obvious cheating, racket smashing, excessive crying, time-wasting, and disruptive behaviour is common at most tournaments. These tournaments are stressful for both parents and children. It's tense. Parents wince, despair and feel every hit on every point. The pain of set backs far outweigh the pleasure of winning. Tempers occasionally boil over between parents. Parents just want their child to do well. I get it. But this desire doesn't mean it's ok for their child to behave counter to the spirit of the game and set a bad example for others. My kids have their moments but generally they're well behaved. Don't get me wrong. Winning is very important and we don't take part to make up the numbers. However, cheating and gamesmanship is not ok. Win with your skills, tenacity, and hard work. If someone is better than you on the day, get over it quickly, learn from it, and aim to do better next time. #lifelessons #tennis #sport #parents

Please help Save Okemo’s Halfpipe for my Julie! I rarely make personal requests here on LinkedIn, but this issue cannot go ignored. As a parent of a young freeski competitor, I’ve seen firsthand how critical Okemo’s halfpipe is—not just for training, but for fostering the growth of future athletes in skiing and snowboarding. Our daughter relies on this unique resource to prepare for competitions, and its removal would be a significant loss for the winter sports community. The Okemo halfpipe is the only one of its kind in the region, making it an essential part of the local ecosystem for developing talent. Beyond my personal connection, this decision has broader implications for athletes, the skiing industry, and the future of winter sports innovation. I’m asking for your help to reverse this decision. It only takes three clicks to make a difference and preserve this critical resource for current and future generations. 👉 Click here to take action: https://lnkd.in/eg-7wWij Thank you for considering this important cause. Your voice matters! Let’s ensure Okemo remains a place where athletes, young and old, can grow, compete, and thrive. ClubVMSA WoW: Women of Work Jim Coughlin Jason Meyenburg Matthew Parise

All of us at Level Water are very proud to have recently teamed up with National charity, the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK to improve access to swimming and water safety education for children with disabilities. Together, with the team at the Royal Life Saving Society UK - RLSS UK, we have created a brand-new lifesaving award for swim teachers and lifesaving instructors to break down barriers and ensure that children from all backgrounds have the opportunity to learn basic self-rescue and lifesaving skills. Our Head of Programmes, Matthew Maguire, said “A huge part of our adapted swimming lesson programme is about teaching confidence, self-esteem and resilience and this partnership is the perfect opportunity for young people to show these skills off and increase their love for the water, whilst also giving families the chance to feel confident their child is safe in and around water. We're delighted to be a part of such an exciting partnership." Thank you to all involved, and for Places Leisure for hosting for the photography of the new Rookie Rescue Skills award and for the continued support rolling out across their pools. Hi friends! I have posted here once before about the Boston Squash Academy, whose aim is to make squash accessible to the middle class. We are making another fundraising push and would humbly request that you help. You can give on GoFundMe: https://gofund.me/e5ccc1fb There are lots to report: we have 120 members, 40 of them juniors, including 25 public school students. We have an active ladder, round robins 3 nights a week, a free clinic on Saturdays, and a mini-tourney every Sunday. We are also planning to offer after school programs for beginning and advanced juniors, and, if we can pull it together in time, summer squash camps. Come check out the courts. We have new lighting, sanded courts, bleachers we built ourselves that are like the ones you see at the MIT and Tufts, a large screen TV to broadcast matches, that also keep the members informed of ladder standings and club updates. Finally, we are excited to add to our roster of coaches some of the best coaches in Boston. Check us out at bostonsquashacademy.com. In keeping with our goal to make it accessible to everyone, we keep our fees as low as possible. This is possible due to the generosity of our donors and NYSC Allston. For instance, MA public school students can join for $125 per year thanks to your support. In addition, NYSC Allston has made the club accessible to kids under 14 for the first time (squash courts only). So if you your family plays squash - come join us! In summary, we have a few requests: First, consider joining the BSA as a premium member (first join NYSC Allston - $45 per month, then join the BSA through club locker for an extra $15 at https://lnkd.in/exJ-QufY). We are fast become one of the great squash centers in Boston, a club for "the rest of us." Join us and come play. There is free garage parking to boot, and our central location makes it ideal for squash players to access. Also, please encourage any and all pre-K through 12th grade MA public school students to join. In fact, if you know public school students potentially interested in squash you can donate $125 specifically to fund their memberships. Just let them know, and us at info@bostonsquashacademy.com after donating, and we will give them a free one-year membership. Do you have nephews, nieces, grandkids - this is a fantastic gift to offer them. We are making another big funding push to get to the $8,000 we need to raise to keep us afloat until the membership base sustains us. Our rent to NYSC Allston, together with our monthly expenses is still more than we bring in (even though everyone except the coaches are volunteers). We are more than halfway towards our fundraising goal due to your generosity. If you have given in the past, thank you! Please consider donating again or for the first time. Gratefully, Steve Lantos and Ron Rubin, Founders
