Here is an often overlooked population of family caregivers. Kids, 18 and under, are increasingly taking care of parents, grandparents, and siblings with chronic medical conditions. They miss school and outings with friends, often feel isolated and tend to worry. A 12-year-old, living alone with her dad who has kidney disease, describes falling asleep in class after being up with him at night when he is sick. A 14-year-old gives his mother injections. About one third of middle school and high school students in one Florida survey manage medication. Studies from the National Alliance For Caregiving indicate there are at least 5.4 million of these kids, whose family members have cancer, debilitating diseases like Multiple Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease, and dementia. Some of their parents are veterans or have been injured in accidents. By default, they've become part of the nation's system of long term care. #caregiving, #familycare, #longtermcare

Part 2 of our #ShareAStoryMonth series highlights the experiences of Epilepsy and how it can impact someone's life everyday. Did you know that in the UK there are 633,000 people living with Epilepsy and a further 600 will be diagnosed everyday? Don't forget to visit our website for the full post here: https://loom.ly/yeeAHuw #Access ID: Light Blue background. At the top in a darker cyan coloured text is "#ShareAStory" the font makes it look like it has been handwritten. Just below that towards the left hand side of the page is a cartoon looking notepad with a quote on it from the blog. It states: "I was told by an Epilepsy Consultant at 15 that I “would never have a normal life” and “would never drive a car”. To the right even with the top of the notebook is a stack of post it notes (Green on the top and the same cyan blue colour used for the text underneath) It says: "Read the full blog on our website!" Underneath the post it note stack, in the bottom right corner, is a stack of 6 books all facing different directions. From the bottom the colours are: Pink, yellow, blue, pink and 2 greens on top.

A poor school district in Ohio with 300 staff saved $2.4M in one year while providing BETTER healthcare. This isn't a fantasy - it's happening now. It started with a single employer with 38 employees and just a few years later reaches 1000's of private and public sector employees restoring hope and the American Dream in that single community.
