Sometimes the best things happen when you least expect them. For Abbie, a seasoned nurse who had worked with adults for more than six years, pediatrics was never part of the plan — until a travel assignment at Children's Wisconsin changed everything. “I was actually opposed to pediatrics for years, but after just one day here, I knew this was where I wanted to be long-term. Caring for a child is one of the most special experiences I've had in nursing — you really feel like you're changing their little world.” The transition? Surprisingly smooth. “The hardest part was learning the protocols, not the patients or families. Parents are understandably emotional in these situations, and once you empathize with them, it becomes easier to be that calm, comforting presence.” For Abbie, the most rewarding part is being there for children on their most stressful days. “I'll never forget holding a child as he woke up from surgery, waiting for his parents. Being a safe, gentle place for a child to wake up without fear — it changed how I see my work.” Considering the switch to pediatrics? “Children’s Wisconsin isn’t for you if you don’t want to get attached. These children will steal your heart every day.” Inspired? Start your journey: https://lnkd.in/gPjc2yjt
