Did you know, that it is actually possible to exceed the maximum read range of a tag shown on the datasheet? With a HANDHELD?!? In the test cases shown below, the Zebra RFD9090 with the linear Yagi-Antenna was able to achieve a read distance of almost 20mtrs with the latest models of Exo1000 and ~ 30mtrs with Exo2000 from HID. Side note: the nick name of this device is "straight shooter" which I think is not only funny but also very much applicable.
