Experience. When the way forward looks blocked, as it did on my run this morning, it can often be experience that provides the path to the quickest solution. I hadn’t run this route in the dark for a long time, but I trusted that I could navigate it safely. That trust was based on my previous experience of running, with this being my 1,398th outing (since I started using an app to track my runs). The monopolistic practices of Apple in the Chinese market could act as a catalyst for a decline in its competitiveness, viewed from two perspectives. Firstly, the protective policies of China towards Apple might backfire, given that the Android system in China is backed by highly competitive enterprises such as Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, and vivo. If Apple continues to adhere to its monopolistic strategy with the App Store in pursuit of high profits, its market competitiveness will inevitably be weakened. Secondly, from a profit standpoint, Apple has reaped substantial profits through the App Store, but if it attempts to maintain this position through monopoly, it will similarly harm its competitiveness in the long run.

We started this initiative over a year and a half ago when we saw billion dollar tech companies doing everything they could to addict our kids to their channels - and nowhere near enough to protect them. Working with Netsafe New Zealand we looked at what we could do with 2degrees to start to tackle this. We needed to educate in an engaging way that drove real impact, we needed to do this before kids started using their phones, we needed parents educated and engaged in the programme and we needed children and parents to understand the importance of conversation and healthy boundaries around phones - ensuring families agree and apply these safe behaviours and rules. The Good Tings packaging was supported by a wider programme, was free from 2d stores and created positive friction before kids unboxed smartphones. It has ensured the right conversations and agreements between parents and kids are taking place before phones are used. And we have changed the smartphone behaviours of thousands of New Zealand families. It is just one more way 2degrees Fights for Fair for New Zealanders.
