#Conflict breeds humanitarian crisis. The situation continues to be unstable because of the persistent tensions between Somalia's federal government and Jubaland state. The federal government has appointed a new governor for the Gedo region, along with district commissioners for all Gedo districts, while Jubaland state has already selected its own governor and district commissioners for the area, which is increasing political conflict. There are ongoing worries about possible confrontations. This political conflict between Somalia's federal government and Jubaland state creates a precarious situation that threatens to escalate into a humanitarian crisis, affecting the well-being and safety of the populations of the region who are impacted by the recurrent droughts, floods, crops diseases, erratic rains. Addressing these issues requires immediate attention and concerted efforts from the international community, humanitarian organizations, and local authorities to prevent further deterioration of the situation. #PEACE #Letpeaceprevail #Leststopcausinghumanitariancrisis

The province of Badghis, located in northwest Afghanistan and bordering Turkmenistan, is one of the thirty-four provinces of the country. It is known as one of the most underdeveloped provinces, lacking in infrastructure and roads. Agriculture is the main source of income for the households in the province, and the availability of the Murghab River makes the land suitable for cultivation. The province has been plagued by drought since the late 1990s and has experienced water shortages for years. While forests have been cut down in excessive amounts since 2001, the ongoing drought has only worsened the situation. To alleviate the various humanitarian crises in the province, in 2023, Future Generations Afghanistan initiated humanitarian and development projects in the province, aiding thousands of farming and non-farming households in combatting the challenges they are facing. #FGA #nonprofit #FAO

The European Union has released €5.4 million in humanitarian aid to help the most affected populations in the aftermath of the devastating floods in Chad, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Mali and Burkina Faso. More than 4.4 million people are estimated to be affected in the six countries. Floods have led to the destruction of houses, public health facilities, water systems, schools and sanitation facilities as well as roads, infrastructures, and agricultural areas. Moreover, the lack of access to water, hygiene, and sanitation services is increasing the risk of spreading of waterborne diseases.

Malawi has declared a state of disaster in 23 out of its 28 districts due to severe drought conditions, with the president urgently seeking over $200 million in humanitarian assistance. This announcement comes shortly after neighbouring Zambia made a similar appeal. The drought, attributed to the El Niño weather phenomenon, has also devastated crops in Zimbabwe, prompting considerations for a similar drought disaster declaration. The U.N. World Food Programme previously warned of an impending hunger crisis in southern Africa, where nearly 50 million people were already facing food insecurity. USAID further emphasized the dire situation, stating that over 20 million people in southern Africa will urgently require food aid in early 2024 due to the impact of El Niño. Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango has announced that the country has received approximately $511 million from international partners to support its drought relief efforts. Speaking to state media, Nalumango expressed gratitude for the prompt response, noting that the funds consist of both pledges and actual disbursements. The vice president highlighted the urgency of the situation, with 6.6 million Zambians in need of relief food. “The purpose of this donor support and that which is coming from other well-wishers is to ensure that this government sees to it that our people do not die of hunger,” she said, as quoted by the state-run Zambia Daily Mail. End nationalism of food It's decision time. The human race must end nationalism of food. National food security! Let's stop it. Fine, let's talk irrigation. It will help. But it won't solve the problem. Remember, across the world society is structured on weather. Norms and values are moulded on weather. So, adaptation will not be easy. The human ecosystem must respond as one. Resorting to vernacular, we need WFP on steroids. Where's science? We tapped science to binge on oil. That created the crisis. But the science to meaningfully read weather still challenges us. We've tussled with the mathematics for nearly two centuries. We're yet to crack it. Meantime, let's see sense. Let's end the nationalism of food. The protectionism fails humanity.

More than 24 million people in southern Africa face hunger, malnutrition and water scarcity due to drought and floods, an aid group has warned, as experts say the situation risks spiraling into an “unimaginable humanitarian situation.”-CNN Oxfam’s southern Africa program director, Machinda Marongwe, said the region is “in crisis” and called on donors to “immediately release resources” to prevent the spiral into an “unimaginable humanitarian situation.” “With all these countries facing multiple crises simultaneously, the urgency cannot be overstated,” Marongwe said.
